Troy' s Flaming hot fitness Journey

Troy' s Flaming hot fitness Journey This page is all about the fitness work I am doing in my home gym in Hedland. I will add my different workouts and how I have going with them all.

People think going to the gym with your mate is all serious training…

Nah. First, there’s dancing between sets, laughing at absolutely nothing, taking the p**s out of each other and questioning every life choice that brought us here.

Then the music gets turned up, the stupid ideas begin, and suddenly we’re training like the gym owes us money. 😂💪

Train hard. Laugh harder. Make memories—and maybe even lift something heavy along the way.

WHY CAN THE GOOD DAYS SOMETIMES FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE?

Ever had everything going well… but instead of enjoying it, you’re waiting for something to go wrong?

Nothing’s happened.

Life is actually pretty bloody good in that moment.

But somewhere in the back of your mind there’s still that little voice saying:

“Yeah… but what’s coming next?”

That’s something I’m learning about myself through recovery.

When you’ve spent a long time switched on, stressed or expecting the next problem, being calm can actually feel unfamiliar.

You almost don’t trust it.

But I’m learning that not every quiet moment is the calm before the storm.

Sometimes it’s just calm.

I’m allowed to enjoy the good days.
I’m allowed to laugh.
I’m allowed to relax.
I’m allowed to be happy without waiting for something to take it away.

Recovery isn’t only learning how to handle the bad days.

It’s learning how to actually live in the good ones.

I don’t have to prepare for a storm every time the sun comes out. ☀️❤️‍🩹

I THOUGHT RECOVERY WOULD MAKE ME FEEL LIKE THE OLD ME AGAIN.

For a while, I thought that was the goal.

Get better.
Get back to normal.
Get back to being the bloke I was before all this.

But I’m starting to realise something…

Maybe I’m not supposed to go backwards.

Trauma changes you. Life changes you. And recovery changes you too.

I’m learning more about myself.
What actually matters to me.
What I need to let go of.
Where I need boundaries.
And what I want the next chapter of my life to look like.

There are parts of the old me I’ll always carry.

But I don’t need to become that exact person again to know I’m getting better.

Maybe recovery isn’t about finding the old me.

Maybe it’s about getting to know—and actually liking—the person I’m becoming.

And I’m starting to think that’s a pretty bloody good place to be.

THE VERSION OF ME EVERYONE SEES

You can be laughing your arse off with your mates while fighting a completely different battle inside.

You can go to work.
Train hard.
Crack jokes.
Help everyone else.
Smile for the camera.

And still be struggling.

That’s something I understand a lot better now.

Mental health doesn’t always have a look. PTSD and CPTSD don’t suddenly become obvious because someone is having a hard time.

Some people become bloody good at functioning while carrying things nobody else can see.

So check in on your mates—even the loud ones, the funny ones and especially the ones who always seem strong.

Because a smile only tells you what someone is showing you.

Don’t assume someone is okay just because they’re still smiling.

Sometimes the biggest battles are the ones nobody can see. ❤️‍🩹

“Stay busy. It’s good for your mental health.”

And sometimes it absolutely is.

Training. Work. Projects. Keeping occupied. They can give us structure, purpose and something positive to focus on.

But I’m learning there’s another question worth asking:

Am I staying busy because I genuinely enjoy what I’m doing… or because I don’t want to be alone with what I’m feeling?

Sometimes constantly doing more isn’t recovery.

Sometimes recovery is being able to stop, sit with yourself and be okay with the quiet.

Busy can help you cope. But eventually, you still need to deal with what’s underneath it.

R U OK day. It is totally fine not to be OK. Just know there is support out there for you and take that step in reaching out. It is real strength asking for help. Especially for men. So ask your friends or others if they are ok. Not just ok but really ok. And be prepared for someone to same in fact I am not ok. Can we have a chat. Just be that listening ear that’s non judgmental. R U OK?

Today’s training plan said:

30-minute AMRAP

* 300 m Ski Erg
* 10 kettlebell swings
* 5 deadball-to-shoulder
* 20 m sandbag bear-hug carry
* 10 box step-ups
* 20 m sled push
* 50 skips
* 10-calorie Bike Erg

Apparently, the first 20 minutes were supposed to be “controlled.”

That’s adorable.

Nothing says active recovery quite like dragging a sled, hugging a sandbag, throwing a deadball over your shoulder and bouncing between two machines while your lungs submit a formal resignation.

Then the final 10 minutes said, “increase the pace.”

Increase it from what—barely surviving to actively meeting your ancestors?

Thirty minutes. As many rounds as possible. No hiding, no excuses and absolutely no dignity left by the finish.

Just another sensible session from the Beast from the Outback—where “controlled conditioning” means the ambulance hasn’t been called yet.

Flaming Hot Fitness: making terrible decisions look like a training program.

You don’t have to earn your rest.

Why do so many men feel guilty for doing absolutely nothing?

We tie our value to being productive—working, training, fixing problems, helping others and always being useful. If we aren’t achieving something, we can feel lazy or believe we’re wasting time.

When you’ve spent years operating at full speed, slowing down can feel uncomfortable. Your body may be resting, but your mind is still telling you that you should be doing more.

But rest isn’t weakness, laziness or giving up. It’s maintenance.

Rest isn’t something you earn once you’ve completely exhausted yourself. Sometimes rest is what stops you from getting there.
