Grafton Gliding Club operates from the South Grafton Aerodrome at 150 Vere St. Gliding Club was been flying in the Clarence Valley since the early 1970’s. We are a small but passionate group of flyers; our members include highly experienced, well qualified and seasoned pilots, to our youngest trainee pilot who is a junior high school student

GGC flies every second Tuesday and weekends, Saturday o

r Sunday. Flying activities are subject to weather conditions and crew availability. We launch our gliders by winch up to about 1200’ and then soar away, often with the local Wedge Tailed Eagles. The view is spectacular to the north across Grafton to the sea, west up the Clarence River to the ranges and south beyond Shannon Dam and Coutts Crossing. The relaxed sense of flying on a bubble of rising air is both fun and thrilling. This includes temporary Student Membership of the Gliding Federation Australia, valid for 30 days. To fly gliders recreationally the pilot will spend about $1200 per year for unlimited flying time in GGC gliders and includes winch launches, training & instruction, GGC & GFA memberships, licences & insurances.

Recently we had a great gliding day with soaring flights. The last flight of the day was in the late afternoon and lasted for two and a quarter hours. From a launch height of 1300 feet the glider managed to climb to 6300 feet over Grafton and the Clarence Valley. The photos from this flight show the widespread bush fire smoke and drought affected paddocks.
