Hi Ladies,
This is a "see ya girls" to all the friends from our own and from the various clubs around the district who have followed my SGWBC page since it's inception.
Having resigned my position as SGWBC and SGBC Communications officer ( Publicity in the old language ) I an no longer entitled to administer to this page the various news and events which that entails. Someone else hopefully will don the mantle and keep it going, someone with a fresh eye and maybe a neww way of approaching it. . . . . . .
Social media is, in my opinion, a great way to keep us all appraised of events to come, of triumphant moments to be shared and even of the sadder times when our sister’s support is so appreciated.
I have been in this field ever since I joined South Grafton Bowling Club almost 11 years ago. First at club level and then at District level too and I have LOVED every minute of it.Poking a camera in people's faces is a great way to meet them; if maybe a somewhat intrusive way at times eh girls. It's enabled me to meet so many lovely, funny and interesting women while enjoying such a lot of laughs and even a few tears together.
From now on it'll just be Happy Snaps, but I haven't gone away ; so don't be too surprised if you're not still dazzled by the odd flash or two.
Thanks everyone for all the great comments and your obvious enjoyment of this page. You are of course still more than welcome to access my personal FB account,
and I'll see ya' on the Greens,
Denise.

What a beaut 2 days we just shared at Iluka bowls club competing in their Classic Triples Tournament. Good company, great Greens, excellent lunches and heaps of competition prizes , what more could you ask for? Other than Margy Andrew''s team of Ailsa Milligan & Margy Sales, who took out a round win on day one none of our other SGWBC teams did any good prize wise but we sure did enjoy ourselves.
Third place went to birthday girl Bev Murray and her team from Grafton, while another birthday girl, none other than Maclean's Fiona Stewart-Butcher and her team took second placing. Overall winners however went to Red Rock and Andrea Rudd's girls. Well done ladies three well deserved and popular placings..
Thanks to my team mates who looked after me from Go to Whoa. As always love going away with you lot and we'll see most of you ladies at Red Rock's Versatility. Fours this coming Monday

Thursday 18th July Beautiful day for our Club Championship Triples between Anna Bunn's team of Merle King & Sue Mandelc versus Colleen Kane's girls, Bobby Robinson & Shirl Austen. What a good game it was too. Anna, Sue & Merle got away to a flyer but it wasn't too long before Bobby Shirl & Colleen were closing the gap. Some great bowls played from all these women and Anna absolutely blitzed a couple of on shots and drives. A really good game to watch but of course there can only be one winner and that title went to Merle, Sue & Anna. Congratulations girls and well done Bobby, Shirley & Colleen, worthy opponents.

Earlier in the week at Tuesday social bowls the Championship Triples semis that set up our final were played out. The results were:
Rink (4). S Bobby Robinson, S Austen & C Kane d B Essex, P Knox & G Cupples in a game that was much closer than the score of 21-14 suggests.

Three games of social bowls this day as well and the results of these were:

Seems a bit early but there's not a lot of time between our Versatility Comps this season. Anyway as before ladies, first in best dressed, details on the Flyer below.

Tuesday 9th of course saw our Versatility Fives tournament underway with a great turnout and perfect weather to play in. Loads of competition prizes and a beaut "South Grafton WBC special" lunch rounded out the day beautifully. So enjoyed seeing a lot of ladies from our sister clubs at ours, been a long time between drinks but we're there now. Great to have you all.
Thursday 11th July social bowls: Bit of a stark difference from Tuesday with just 3 rinks required for the morning's players, but a pleasant time anyway. Many of our women passed on bowls today to attend the annual Grafton races Festival either on course or at venues where they could watch the action while enjoying a few drinks with friends & family. Can hardly blame them for that. Several have been away on Nanny duty during the school hols and our Pam Lollback for the first time I can remember had to forego competition duty at Versatility day as she's away getting some new eyes. Take care Pam and hurry back. Four of us too whilst still attending were too lazy to play after our big day earlier in the week. The joys of advancing years.
The results of the morning's games were as follows:
Rink (1). G Ryan & E Whitford d I Gough & E McKew 23-14
Rink (2). D Rankin & A Bunn d E Casson & G Cupples 15-11
Rink (3). M Gallagher, P Knox & J Kowal d S Newby, P Harvey & M Andrew 12-11.
Winning Rink (1). Gwen Ryan. Ella Whitford
The resting toucher went to Pam Harvey and the competition prize to E Whitford.
Looking forward to Iluka's two day Classic Triples Tournament and of course Red Rock's Versatility fours later in the month .Our AGM too takes place 30th July. A busy time of year all in all.

Great day yesterday when we hosted the Versatility Fives. Lovely to see teams from Grafton, Iluka, Red Rock. Maclean & Yamba.Seems like an age since we saw a lot of these ladies at our club and it was a treat to see them all now. Good company, beaut lunch & lovely temperatures all went together to make a thoroughly enjoyable day. The winning team were a composite side put together by Ros Duncan of Iluka, second place went to our own South Grafton team led by Heather Nichols and in third place Toni Shorten and girls from Grafton District Services took the title. Plenty of good competition prizes rounded the day out. Thanks to South Ex Services, who once again generously shared their Green, to our loyal sponsors and to all our SGWBC workers. Without all of you we simply would not be able to run this event

In a bit of an upset Coll Kane collapsed after her game and duly ended up in Hospital. Jan along with husband Bernie was a tireless worker for our club and these ladies were pleased to be able to celebrate their appreciation with her. Good luck Jan & Bernie in whatever the future holds.

Yesterday saw 20 or so of us lunching at the Grafton Hotel to celebrate SGWBC President Janet Kowal's 3 years in office. It would be fair to say that all Janet's friends apart from Anna & Phyll who simply couldn't make it and a couple who were sick were there to thank their President and wish her and husband Bernie well in the future. A lovely friendly lunch with plenty of jokes ( thanks Di' ) and laughter as well as good food and drink, saw Janet quite overwhelmed at times. The girls presented her with a beautiful pale salmony shade handbag and a matching patterned scarf along with a card full of well wishes and comments. Helen too who couldn't attend sent a lovely card and message. Bernie happily received a very nice bottle of Port. Bernie has been such a help , umpiring our Pennants and Tournaments and helping out in general. Janet's Easybeat team mates Rhonda, Betty, Gail and myself gifted her a photobook thanking her for all the fun we've had and including some of her more special moments and memories.
Thanks Jan for all the work and effort you've put in, particularly these first months of 2019 and all the very best to you and Bern. Thanks too to Betty Ford who arranged this lunch, bought presents and made such a great job of it . Well done Betty.
It was an unexpected pleasure too to see our Colleen bright as a button and tucking in with the best of us. So glad you could make it Coll, no more scares like that please.

02/07/2019

A bit of worrying news from our club. Colleen Kane, whom I'm sure most of you know collapsed after winning a Triples championship round and was duly transported by ambulance to Grafton Hospital. Though Coll did apparently lose consciousness she was awake enough to grin at the girls as she left. No news since then I'm afraid other than it's thought it wasn't a stroke or heart attack.Small mercies I guess. Get well soon Coll and love from all of us.
