Metro South East Pennants - Round 3
Grade 4 - Looking to build on last weeks win The Seagulls travalled to neighbouring Waverley for Match of the Round.
Team Mick Bruce had an interesting start to their match, dropping a 5 on the first end, then picking up consequtive 4's to lead 8-5 after only 3 ends.
The match was pretty even over the next half of the gamewith Waverley leading 13-11 after 12 ends. Then a massive 6 saw them jump back into the lead which they maintained till the end, winning 23-18.
Team Bob Grant had a whirl wind start, wining 5 of the first 7 ends to lead 16-2. Waverley then fought back to wrestle the lead back 16-17 after 14 ends.
However the Gulls were not finished and had the better of the remaining ends, especially with a 4 on the last, to run out 27-20 victors.
Team Connor Duncan had a tight game on their hand early and were only 7-4 behind after 7 ends. Dropping a couple of 4's in the next stanza did not help as they slipped to 18-9 behind after 16 ends.
However a 4 of their own and winning most of the remaining ends improved the position a little, going down eventually 25-16.
That left The Seagulls with their second overall win in a row, 66-63 (9-1).
Grade 9 - Hosted the ladies from Western Suburbs at Seagulls areana on what turned into a great afternoon.
Team Sue Rotherty was again the stand out, taking the early ends to lead 6-3after 7. This was followed by the majority of the next stanza which saw the lead increase to 12-7 after 14 ends.
However winning all but one of the last ens was the nail in the coffin, running out 25-9 victors.
Team Kevin Goodwin started their game out of sorts, only winning one end to trail 1-11 after 7 ends. Things improved alittle in the next stanza narrowing the gap to 7-16 after 14 ends.
Again they had the better of the remaining ends, but it was just not to be going down 15-20 in the end.
Team Bill Fitzgibbon had a great start to their game taking the first 5 ends of the game, to lead 7-3 after 7 ends. Wests struck back in the second stanza taking 5 of the ends to lead 11-14 after 14 ends.
The Gulls then hit back taking four ends in a row to lead by 2 with 2 ends remaining. Unfortunately West won both of the remaining ends, by a single shot each time to tie the game 18 All.
Therefore The Seagulls ran out 58-47 (8.5-1.5) victors.
Anothe great weekend of Pennants for our Club.
Go The Seagulls.
