Metro South East Pennants - Round 4

Grade 4 played neighbours Hillsdale in a must win match, with the Bye next week.

Stuart Jackson returned to pennants, playing Jason Powell. This was a match of two halves with Hillsdale eading 9-2 after the first 7 ends. Thinks improved slightly in the next seven (helped by a four) to narrow the gap to 14-8 after 14 ends.
The Seagiulls then hit their straps winning 5 of the last 7 end to run out 19-16 victors.

Team Bob Grant jumped out of the blocks to lead 8-4 after the first 7 ends. Hillsdale hit back with a couple of multiples to narrow the margin to 1, 16-15 after 14 ends.
Unfortunately a 6 on the 16 end put a big dent in the game amd the Gulls could just not fight back, going down 25-19 in the end.

Team Mick Bruce had a day they would rather forget, they were only down 4-8 after the first 7 ends, the next stanza was just not to be as they trailed 21-6 after 14 ends.
In the end it was a disappointing loss 33-7 in the end.
Overall The Gulls went down 45-74 (1-9)

Grade Six hosted the sode from Clovelly looking to build on last weeks victory.

Team Kevin Goodwin had the better of the early ends, leading 9-4 after 7 ends. This was further extended in the next section with the lead stretching to 19-7 after 14 ends.
Clovelly then fought back over the closing ends, picking up a few multiples, but not just enough, as the Seagulls ran out 22-19 victors.

Team Sue Rothery jumped out of the blocks to lead 7-3 after 7 ends. The pressure continued in the next stanza as the lead increased to 17-9 after 14 ends.
A pair of 4's in the closing stanza saw the lead blow out to 26-13 by the end of the game.

Like the rest of the side, Team Bill Fitzgibbon jumped out to an early 11-1 lead in the forst 7 ends (heled by a 5). Things were a little tighter in the next stanza, as the the lead narrowed to 17-8 after 14 ends.
Only dropping a single in the closing stages demonstrated to dominance in this game as they ran out 27-9 victors.

In the end it was a 75-41 (10-0) voctory to the Seagulls.

Metro South East Pennants - Round 3

Grade 4 - Looking to build on last weeks win The Seagulls travalled to neighbouring Waverley for Match of the Round.

Team Mick Bruce had an interesting start to their match, dropping a 5 on the first end, then picking up consequtive 4's to lead 8-5 after only 3 ends.
The match was pretty even over the next half of the gamewith Waverley leading 13-11 after 12 ends. Then a massive 6 saw them jump back into the lead which they maintained till the end, winning 23-18.

Team Bob Grant had a whirl wind start, wining 5 of the first 7 ends to lead 16-2. Waverley then fought back to wrestle the lead back 16-17 after 14 ends.
However the Gulls were not finished and had the better of the remaining ends, especially with a 4 on the last, to run out 27-20 victors.

Team Connor Duncan had a tight game on their hand early and were only 7-4 behind after 7 ends. Dropping a couple of 4's in the next stanza did not help as they slipped to 18-9 behind after 16 ends.
However a 4 of their own and winning most of the remaining ends improved the position a little, going down eventually 25-16.

That left The Seagulls with their second overall win in a row, 66-63 (9-1).

Grade 9 - Hosted the ladies from Western Suburbs at Seagulls areana on what turned into a great afternoon.

Team Sue Rotherty was again the stand out, taking the early ends to lead 6-3after 7. This was followed by the majority of the next stanza which saw the lead increase to 12-7 after 14 ends.
However winning all but one of the last ens was the nail in the coffin, running out 25-9 victors.

Team Kevin Goodwin started their game out of sorts, only winning one end to trail 1-11 after 7 ends. Things improved alittle in the next stanza narrowing the gap to 7-16 after 14 ends.
Again they had the better of the remaining ends, but it was just not to be going down 15-20 in the end.

Team Bill Fitzgibbon had a great start to their game taking the first 5 ends of the game, to lead 7-3 after 7 ends. Wests struck back in the second stanza taking 5 of the ends to lead 11-14 after 14 ends.
The Gulls then hit back taking four ends in a row to lead by 2 with 2 ends remaining. Unfortunately West won both of the remaining ends, by a single shot each time to tie the game 18 All.

Therefore The Seagulls ran out 58-47 (8.5-1.5) victors.

Anothe great weekend of Pennants for our Club.

Go The Seagulls.

Metro South East Pennants - Round 2

Grade 4 - Played Bront at Seagulls Arena, looking to atone for last weeks loss.

Team Mick Bruce were the stand out side this week, winning 9 out of 10 of the first ends to lead 20-2. Running out eventual 25-18 victors.
Team Bobby Grant, started by dropping a 3 on the first end, then it was end for end until the 9th when they picked up a 5. From there they were never headed running out 24-13 victors.
Special note to the last end, with only 3 bowls to play Bob was down a few and converted to hold shot. Bronte then drove at the head and ended up holding 6, Bob 'Granite' Grant then drew the absolute to hold shot. A massive result in light of the masterboard.
Team Connor Duncan held a strong Shane Dollar led squad for the first half of the game, trailing 8-12 after 11 ends. Bronte had the better running from there to lead 26-13 on the last end and needing a 5 to tie or 6 to win the master board. Tight bowls by our boys saw only a single concededfor a 13-27 loss.

Overall a 62-58 (9-1) victory to the Seagulls

Grade 6 - Travel to EBP Sports, aging looking to atone for a first round loss.

Team Kevin Goodwin, had the exact same result, also going down to a tight 20-24 loss in the end.

Team Sue Rothery were the stand outs for the Seagulls, dominating their opponents for the duration for a great 28-12

Bowls NSW Mixed Pairs

Congratulations to Mick Bruce and Chris Shean representing South Coogee today in the Bowls NSW Mixed Pairs qualifiers.

The handily accounted for their Grandviews opponents 23-9 in their first game. Then they held the highly fancied Waverley side to a 13 all draw in their second game.

Therefore they needed to beat their Taren Point opponents by 1 shot to qualify for the next round. After being behind early they fought back well, but needed a 6 on the last end to take the win. Despite their best efforts they could only muster a 4, going down 14-13 for their only loss on the day.

Well done Seagulls
