AGM — Sunday 31 May, 4:00pm @ Watchman House

Ramblers, come along! It’s your club — have a say in direction the club heads next.

We’d especially love to see more of our junior families in the room this year. No role required, no pressure to speak — just turn up, grab a slice, and be part of the conversation.

We encourage all members to come along, have your say, and share your ideas as we plan for the future.

🏆 SACA Junior Cricket Initiative of the Year

We’re proud to share that Coromandel Valley Ramblers Cricket Club has been awarded the Junior Cricket Initiative of the Year, presented to us by Catherine Hutchesson at this month’s Senior Presentation night.

This award recognises our annual Ashley Bryant Memorial T20 Event, held in honour of someone who gave a great deal to junior cricket — at our club and across the country through his roles at SACA, WACA, and Cricket NSW.

Ashley’s passing in 2017 left a lasting impact on the cricket community, and this event is our way of keeping his spirit and legacy alive. This year featured a Kids’ Smash Clinic open to girls and boys (U10–U14), a T20 match, and appearances from the Adelaide Strikers and SA Men’s team, with all funds raised going toward keeping the U10 program free and accessible for every kid who wants to play.

Thank you to everyone who has supported, volunteered, and attended over the years!

🏛️ Hall of Fame Inductee #4 🏏

🌟 ARTHUR GUILFORD PENNO 🌟

We are honoured to announce our fourth Hall of Fame inductee: Arthur Guilford Penno, better known as Gil or AG Penno.

Gil’s association with the Coromandel Valley Ramblers Cricket Club is nothing short of extraordinary — a lifetime of service, leadership, and dedication that helped shape the foundations of our club.

📜 Playing Career (1926–1941)
Gil was a foundation-era player, representing the club from its inception in 1926 through to 1941. Remarkably, he was the only playing member to represent the club every season until the interruption of World War II.

🛠️ Foundations of the Club
In the early days at what was then “Mr Hewett’s Grounds,” Gil played a hands-on role in preparing the oval itself. With his team of horses and horse-drawn scoops, he helped clear and level the ground — quite literally helping build the home of Ramblers Cricket. His wife was famously heard saying, “Not the bloody oval again” as he headed off — often when he was meant to be going to church.

🧢 Leadership & Service
Gil’s commitment extended far beyond playing:

Committee Member: 1932–1955
Club Captain: 1933/34–1940/41 (8 years)
Vice President: 1948–1951
President: 1952–1954

Even after his playing days, Gil continued to serve the club at the highest level of administration.

🚐 Club Supporter & Innovator
From 1933, Gil provided transport to away games using his farm truck — free of charge — a service that continued right through to 1941. Even during petrol rationing in wartime, he ensured the team could still get to games.

🏅 Legacy of Recognition
As captain, Gil introduced a trophy in 1933/34 for the player with the most catches — a tradition that continued for over 20 years and became known as the Best Fieldsman Trophy. His own fielding excellence saw him record the most catches in the club’s first five years.

📊 30 Years of Service
Gil’s involvement with the Ramblers spanned from 1926 to 1955 — a total of 30 years of continuous service as a player, leader, administrator, and lifelong ambassador for the club.

👏 A true pioneer, builder, and clubman in every sense.

Please join us in celebrating and honouring Arthur Guilford Penno, our Hall of Fame Inductee #4.

🏆 2025/26 Glen Watchman Club Person of the Year 🏏

We are proud to announce the recipient of the Glen Watchman Club Person of the Year for 2025/26:

JON FERRIS

Congratulations to Jon, a long-term and highly valued member of our club, on this well-deserved recognition.

Jon has had a distinguished playing career with the Ramblers, including time as A Grade Captain and being honoured as a Player of the Century. While his on-field contributions have been significant, it is his incredible off-field impact over recent seasons that has truly set him apart.

Jon plays a vital role across multiple areas of the club:

📌 Senior Director
Overseeing the senior program, working closely with the coach, players, and committee to ensure the smooth running of Adelaide & Suburban Cricket operations.

📌 Junior Recruitment & School Coordinator
A driving force at Coromandel Valley Primary School, building strong relationships with families and encouraging participation in Ramblers cricket. As a result of his efforts, well over 50 junior players are now part of our club.

📌 Junior Coach & Mentor
Attending weekly training sessions, running Sunday morning matches and T20 games, and supporting both players and parents throughout the junior program.

Jon’s commitment sees him spend a huge portion of his summer dedicated to Ramblers Cricket in one capacity or another. His energy, leadership, and passion for growing the game at all levels has had a lasting impact on the club.

We also extend our sincere thanks to Bonnie (Jon's partner) for her ongoing support and patience throughout the season.

👏 Congratulations Jon on being named Glen Watchman Club Person of the Year 2025/26 — a truly deserving recipient.

🏆 A.R. Benson A Grade Player of the Year 🏆
&
🏆 Len Kenyon Memorial Club Player of the Year 🏆

Congratulations ZAC VENNING

The 2025/26 A Grade Player of the Year and Club Player of the Year goes to someone who didn’t just lead our attack, he dominated it.

Across the season, Zac claimed an outstanding:
🔥 44 wickets at an average of 9.4

Numbers that speak for themselves.

But what made Zac’s season truly special was the impact behind those numbers. Time and time again, he produced spells that changed games, lifted the team, and tore opposition batting line-ups apart. Whenever pressure moments arrived, Zac was the bowler the captain turned to — and more often than not, he delivered.

📊 Standout performances included:

6/13 off 8 overs vs North Haven
5/20 off 13 overs in the Grand Final vs Coromandel
4/27 off 14 overs vs Mitchell Park
4/89 off 20 overs vs Coromandel

And in six other matches, Zac took three wickets, a reflection of the consistency he brought across the entire season.

His Grand Final spell deserves special mention. On the biggest stage of the year, in our Centenary Season, Zac stood tall and produced a match-winning performance when it mattered most. 👏

Week after week, Zac set the tone as our opening bowler:
✔️ Reliable
✔️ Disciplined
✔️ Relentless
✔️ Intimidating for opposition batters

He made quality players across the competition look a level below, all while bringing the same team-first attitude every single round. Although there may have been the occasional suggestion to opposition batters about the shot they “should” have played along with the odd cheeky send-off 😅, his competitiveness and passion are exactly what every team wants.

These awards recognise far more than wickets alone.

As Vice Captain, Zac played a major leadership role within the group, while also contributing across the club through coaching our girls team and helping drive standards both on and off the field.

When we needed someone to step up, he did.
When we needed breakthroughs, he delivered.
And when the season was on the line, he produced his very best.

Zac, congratulations on an outstanding season and on being named both our:
🏆 A.R. Benson A Grade Player of the Year
🏆 Len Kenyon Memorial Club Player of the Year

A thoroughly deserved recognition for an exceptional year.
