WESTERN PORT BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION:

VALE ROD BUSH OAM.

Western Port Basketball Association notes the recent passing of Rod Bush OAM, a highly respected figure in Victorian basketball.

Rod shaped officiating and mentored generations across the game. Honoured with a 60 Years of Service Award and an OAM, his legacy will be long remembered.

Our thoughts are with his wife Patsy, daughters Emily, Georgie and Madeline, and the wider basketball community.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME - 13 and 14 JUNE.

Youth League One Women - TAYLAH GEORGE
"Taylah George with 30 points was outstanding. Taylah shot a perfect 6 from 6 three pointers in a rare shooting display. Merryn also had a great game with 14 points and 17 rebounds. Everyone on the team played great defence restricting a high scoring team from Frankston to 15 points total for the first half." Byron Carpenter.

"After a few strong wins on the road, the men arrived back at home for a game against ladder leaders, Chelsea. Although the game was close for the first half, the Steelers lost their way against a sharp shooting Gulls to lose 83-111. Disappointing week but now focused on the road challenge with Bulleen." WESTERN PORT BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION BIGV STEELERS:

CHELSEA OVER WESTERN PORT.

The Division One Men also hosted Chelsea Gulls at SRC this afternoon.

The Steelers held a small lead after the first break but Chelsea had a stronger second to be 5 points up at half time. They had a much bigger third outscoring the Steelers 32-18. The margin was closer in the last but Chelsea just capitalised on what was already done.

Players of the Game will be published tomorrow.

WESTERN PORT BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION BIGV STEELERS:

GULLS TOO STRONG AT SOMERVILLE.

The Youth League Two Men hosted Chelsea Gulls at SRC this afternoon.

Whilst the Gulls led by 6 points at quarter time, the Steelers came back winning the second and bringing the margin back to 4 in favour of the Gulls. Chelsea then had a massive third quarter, extending their lead to 25 points. The Steelers came back stronger in the last, but the Gulls held.

WESTERN PORT BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION NEWS:

Congratulations to Jack Vukadinovic, one of our senior referees, who officiated at the National Junior Classic last weekend.

Jack was selected as part of the U18 Referee Group, comprising referees from VC and Big V, who were invited to officiate throughout the tournament.

His invitation is a fantastic recognition of Jack’s dedication, professionalism, and ongoing commitment to referee development. We are proud to see him representing our association on the national stage and congratulate him on this achievement.

A testament also to the work being done by Margaret Gorman, WPBA's Referee Supervisor, who continues to provide the guidance and tutelage in our program.

WESTERN PORT BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION BIGV STEELERS:

STEELERS CHAMP WOMEN HAD THE ANTIDOTE OVER WARRANDYTE.

Our Championship Women took the win over Warrandyte Venom in game two of Pink Round tonight.

The Steelers led by 8 points at quarter time and then by 14 at half time. The third quarter was neck and neck, however the last saw the Steelers surge, winning the game by 22.
