Very proud to see Somerton member Ray Nussio shortlisted for Assessor of the year. In 2025 Ray reached his 25 year milestone. As Ray calls time on assessing we thank him for the time given and reflect on the many members whose lives he touched, whose award journey he oversaw. Thank you Ray and congratulations on your nomination. 💚🤍🖤

Moments of reflection at the Brighton Beach Dawn Service 💚

This morning, we pause to honour the courage, sacrifice, and spirit of the men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our country.

As the first light of day broke, it was a time to reflect, remember, and give thanks.

At Somerton Surf Life Saving Club, we recognise the values of service, mateship, and commitment — values that are deeply embedded in our patrols and volunteers.

Today, we remember those who gave everything, and those who continue to serve.

Congratulations to the 36 members across 15 clubs who are set to embark on the 2026 Youth Development Camp next week! 👏

With participants coming from all across the state, from Whyalla to the South East as well as Murray Bridge for the very first time, it’s fantastic to see such strong representation. We look forward to providing an opportunity for our youth surf lifesavers to connect, build friendships, and get involved in a wide range of activities 🎉

The camp will take place at Woodhouse Adventure Park from Monday April 20 - Wednesday April 22.

Get your engines ready...IRB Racing is BACK for 2026💥

The 2026 SHARKSKIN SA IRB Series kicks off this Sunday morning, with our IRB crews gearing up for a big showdown in Round 1 at Brighton Surf Lifesaving Club 🔥

The IRB racing season provides an opportunity for IRB drivers and crew to train and test their lifesaving abilities, with all races simulating rescue situations.

Easter Monday marked our last patrol of the season. And while we won’t be on the beach patrolling every Saturday and Sunday we are always rescue ready. It’s been a pleasure to serve our local community again this season.

It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of long serving member Graham Burfield.

Graham was an active member of Somerton, joining the club in 2008 and gaining his Bronze Medallion in the same season. Graham’s volunteering knew no bounds, patrolling between the flags for 14 years in addition to being an Age Group Manager, club photographer and Silver Medallion IRB driver providing countless hours of water cover and also finding time to serve behind the bar in the Club Bistro and also Buddy Bar. Graham was an active participant in the weekly club swim and also the annual Somerton Mile. Graham’s service was honoured with the Cath Wirth Perpetual Trophy for Commitment and Contribution in 2010, SSLSC Long Service Membership in 2018 and the SLSA 10 year National Patrol Service Award in 2023.

Graham’s most significant contribution was his six year tenure on the Board of Management as Honorary Treasurer, steering Somerton through some tough and perilous times.

It’s all so surreal, it is only two weeks ago that “Burf” attended the Club’s 65th celebrations sharing a beer and a laugh with us.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Helen, Cameron and Kate.
