WE’RE HIRING – FULL TIME GROOM / STABLEHAND

Delmara Park (Somersby, NSW – Central Coast) is looking for a full-time groom to join our boutique dressage stable.

This is a hands-on stable role, not a riding position. The position suits someone confident and capable of managing daily stable duties independently, with a high standard of horse care.

Monday–Friday only
Approx. 7am–5pm (with breaks during the day)
No weekend work required

You’ll be working with quality young performance warmbloods in training, as well as a small number of retired horses.

Duties include:
• Mucking out stables and yards
• Feeding and rugging
• Tacking and untacking for training
• Cleaning barn areas
• Raking arenas and harrowing paddocks
• General stable and property maintenance

Experience with young warmbloods is essential. Confidence around performance horses required. Experience with farm machinery preferred. Driver’s licence preferred.

Occasional opportunity to attend competitions, but the role is primarily stable-based.

2021 (3-year-old) Bay Mare, approx. 15.3hh

‘Dora’ is a quality young mare with the looks for the show ring and the pedigree for dressage. She completed five weeks of professional breaking-in (finished in late November last year), then spent two weeks with Jack Hayden to return to work after spelling.

She is currently based in Somersby, NSW and in light work (2–3 days/week).

Dora has been incredibly uncomplicated to start—willing, honest, and naturally cadenced, with a beautiful shape and frame. She is an elegant, easygoing mare with a natural balance and outstanding presence, making her a top prospect for either the show or dressage arena.

We believe she would best suit an experienced amateur rider with young horse experience, and in time, she will make the perfect smaller mount for a young rider.

While Dora is exceptionally well-behaved and straightforward, she is still green and will not be suitable for inexperienced riders. Only serious buyers will be permitted to ride her—no time wasters, please.

Sometimes it's the retirees that give us the best feelings! Delmara Hallmark - Elvis has moved to be a paddock buddy with our all-time favourite old boy - Scooter! It's quiet around here without Elvis, actually he's never lived away from home since he was born!! But when you get update photos to say he's settled in, and even better, given the old boy some renewed energy! That makes us all feel good!!!!!

Weekend Stable Hand Position Available
Location Somersby, NSW
Split shifts for morning and evening feed up.
Tasks include feeding, rugging, mucking out yards and stables, prepping feeds for next shifts, keeping all areas clean and tidy.
Applicant should be confident handling young warmbloods and cheeky old ponies! Ability to drive quad bike with various implements such as spreaders and rakes. Drivers Licence preferred.
Reliability essential!
Above award wages paid, double time for Sundays. Must have working rights in Australia, we do not classify for regional WHV extension.

This is what breeding is all about! The thought, effort and hope that goes into choosing a combination that you cross your fingers will have everything you desire from your mare and the stallion. You grow them (maybe a little taller than average in this case!), you teach them to have confidence in their humans as youngsters, and then you send them off to become what you desperately hope will be an amazing ridden horse. Well I think we did it with this one!

When your breaker says this horse genuinely wants to be a dressage horse, you know you’re getting somewhere!
When your daughter absolutely loves riding her heart horse’s baby, even though he’s a giraffe, we’re getting somewhere!
And when you hand him over to a very dear friend to continue his training, who sends you videos of your baby horse every other day because he’s fallen for this cool dude, we’re definitely going places!

Now it’s time to consider a new home for Saint, someone who will love his very cool temperament, be happy to look after his long legs, and enjoy training him to be a very special dressage horse.

POSITION AVAILABLE - Full-time - Monday to Friday
We are a small warmblood stud with a dressage focus. Experience with young warmblood horses and use of farm machinery required. Duties will include mucking out of stables and yards, feeding, rugging, cleaning of barn areas, raking arenas and harrowing paddocks, exercising horses in work, managing retired horses and spelling horses. Young horse riding experience a bonus, not essential. Self-contained, air-conditioned 1 bedroom accommodation available.

🖤Delmara Foreign Affair - Franki🖤

It breaks our hearts that we have had to make the horrendous decision to peacefully put Franki to sleep. After a paddock accident 2 years ago which resulted in a serious de-glove, severed tendons, bone fractures and then the onset of traumatic string-halt and numerous infections, we have been unable to heal the wound or improve the gait and make Franki truly comfortable. Franki’s care has been unrelenting and we appreciate all the people who have helped him along the way, trying desperately to make it better.

Owning animals is really tough when these challenges are thrown at you, even more tough when you put your heart and soul into the breeding and care of them from the time they were conceived. Franki was the Divina x Furst Fantasy baby we had decided to keep, when he was born we tube fed him the first day, and then for the next year he was so shy he’d barely let us touch him, he hid behind his recip mum and then when he was weaned he hid behind his twin brother Freddi - a far cry from the confident beauty he became - always wanting pats and cuddles, no matter what else we were trying to do with him, a testament to his amazing temperament.

On a positive note Franki is pain-free and we know this was the right thing to do for him.

Our heartfelt thanks go to Apryl Pugsley for finding him and staying so incredibly calm, Shelley Topham for treating him throughout and Kaitlin for coping with such a horrendous situation for her special Divina baby. Along with the ongoing care from Ayleigh Robertson, Jess Macbeth, Lucy Payne, Zara Dwyer, Chloe Babbage, Lola Gregory, the ever supportive team at Wyong Equine Clinic also Agnes Banks Surgery, and Natalie Smith at Equine Massage and Cryotherapy. And lastly Paul and Brett for laying him to rest.
