REMINDER: Somers Tennis Club is holding a social day from 12-4pm on Sunday 15th February. Come along for a social hit of tennis and to participate in games and activities for all of the family. We will have the bar open (beer, wine, cider and soft drinks available) and the BBQ will be on for a delicious lunch! We will also have gourmet cheeses and condiments courtesy our wonderful sponsor, BoatShed Cheese. We hope to see you there. Everyone is welcome 🎾

The club is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Glenice Carr.

Glenice was a member at Somers TC for over 40 years, serving on the committee for periods between the mid 1980s until the late 2000s.

She absolutely loved her tennis, and was a part of the famous Mid Week Ladies team that won 10+ flags during the 1990s.

She was also a keen night tennis and Saturday afternoon competition player, and was well known by many around the peninsula.

Glenice won multiple Women’s Singles titles in our Club Championships in the early 1990s. When the Championships returned in 2020, she won two Mixed Doubles titles (2020 and 2022) with Ray Willis, a duo that had played a lot of competition together over the years.

On a personal level, Glenice was someone I always cherished seeing down at the tennis club. Our respective teams would play at home together on a Saturday, and even in retirement she would come down to watch and cheer us on.

Much like her late husband Richie, Glenice was someone who was very easy to talk to, and made every effort to get to know people who were a part of the club.

Glenice, farewell. You will be so dearly missed by us all. Saturday afternoons will never be the same without you. Thank you for everything you did for the club, and for those who knew you.

A service will be held at Mornington Racecourse on Monday January 5th at 2:00 to celebrate her life.

We’re so touched by the special community we have created at Somers Tennis Club 🥰 What a way to celebrate Christmas last night with a fantastic night of tennis, great food, perfect weather, and amazing friendships. Thank you to all who attended. We will take a short break from social tennis on 24 & 31 December, and plan to resume on 7 January (watch this space for updates). Merry Christmas to you all 🎄🎅
