Sandbar Golf Course will be closed this Saturday 22 February for the annual Belle's Breast Cancer Fundraiser

REMINDER

Wednesday Mens Comp starts back next Wednesday 5 February at 1:00 pm at Sandbar.

This is Craig Roberts from Cabcon Building a regular sponsor of and participant in Sandbar Golf Club events having chipped in (on the full mind you) from the middle of the 5th fairway for a birdie on the 7th earlier in the holiday. His son Xavier, also pictured, had the same score but was a much more conventional approach with his tee shot as close as many NTP's on a Wednesday

Assuming we all have been practicing, negotiating the winds that have been around of late.

Gents

The year is coming to a close and for the Wednesday mob, next Wednesday 27 November will see our last round of the year in competition.

For members we are making it a free game and there will be a free sausage sizzle (donated by Dallas Locke) starting at noon with a free beer or soft drink to wash it down. Normal tee off in a 2 man Ambrose format, with teams drawn on the day. There will be lots of prizes to be won with sponsors coming to the party big time, for our last day of the year.

There will be two chip off competitions run before play to warm up the competitors (both for a prize) - you have to be in it to win it. There are prizes (on some multiple) on every hole, most requiring skill, but not all :)

After the round you are all invited back to the Bowlo where normal daily presentations will be made along with a few others. Like on every other Wednesday you need to be at the presentation (for this day only - at the Bowlo) to pick up your award should you have won one.

Food (pizza etc) will be provided but your drinks will be through the bar at Club prices.

Please let me know if you will be attending so I can sort out catering, team scorecards and starting points etc. If you cant make golf, feel free to come and join us at the Bowlo afterwards for the presentations

Ron Thornton shoots par off the stick

In a blistering performance including sinking a putt from off the green on the last hole of his round, Ronald Thornton produces one of the rounds of the season in the penultimate Wednesday Competition for the year at Sandbar Golf Club

With next week being our end of year function all members and regular Wednesday competitors are encouraged to play in this event. Sausages will sizzle from noon thanks to Dallas Locke, there will be prizes on each hole plus a few others to add some interest.

After the game players and members are invited back to the Bowlo for the presentations and pizza. Drop me a line and let me know if you are coming so i can sort out catering and the Ambrose formatting.

COURSE CLOSURE

Sandbar Golf course will be closed to the general public this Sunday from dawn until around 1.00pm to allow for the Inter Club Challenge between Sandbar Golf Club and Lakeside Tavern Golf Club.

Any members or normal Wednesday competition members wishing to play who have not yet registered are invited to turn up at 8.00am and you will be included. Cost $35 includes a BBQ breakfast and lunch

LEIGH TITTERTON IN C GRADE THRILLER

Leigh Titterton wins the C Grade Match Play in a match decided by an extra hole. Out of sight of most of the players on course, Leigh and Solomon Lee went at it, unseparated at the end of nine holes, after a match that ebbed and flowed, they made the turn and after a spectacular tee shot as opposed to the wayward one of his opponent, the pair walked back from the first green with Leigh victorious.
This was after Leigh accounted for Steve Brack in a semi final a few hours earlier where had to concede a shot on every hole and two on the hardest holes on the course to the high handicapper.

REUBEN CARR ALL CLASS IN B GRADE MATCH PLAY FINAL

Reuben Carr shows nothing but class in the B Grade Match Play final with an impressive 4 and 3 win over Chris Wallace. All over by the 6th green Reuban impressively hit successive birdies on 3 and 4, holes on which due the handicapping system he conceded a shot to his opponent.

With his foot effectively on the throat of his opponent he walked to the 5th tee one under par for the round off the stick and didnt let up carding yet another par on the 6th to win the day.

RON THORNTON WINS A GRADE MATCH PLAY FINAL IN A THRILLER

Ron Thornton showed why he is one of the better golfers gracing Sandbar Golf Course with a thrilling win in the A Grade Match Play Final one up against Murray Sharp. Holding a three shot advantage walking to the 5th tee, the butterflies set in with an 8 and a loss on the par 4. A putt that could have wrapped things up on the 7th does a 360 degree loop around the cup and lips out to halve the hole, then to add to the pressure his opponent drives the par 4, 8th setting up a tantalising last tee shot on 9, with what was a couple of holes prior a three shot advantage now only one up.

But holding his nerve, especially after his opponent going for broke, tugs his tee shot out of bounds he ends up winning the A Grade Match Play Final and the relief showed

SANDBAR MATCH PLAY FINALS

This Wednesday the finals of the Match Play event will be taking place.

A Grade

Ron Thornton to play Murray Sharp

B Grade

Reuban Carr to play Chris Wallace

C Grade

Either Leigh Titterton or Steve Brack (playing prior to the final) to play Solomon Lee

These three matches will tee off at 1.00pm and will be given the priority of the course before the rest of the normal Wednesday Mens Comp tee off. With the rain delays over winter and spring it is good to see this well fought competition coming to crescendo!

SANDBAR MATCH PLAY

We are getting to the pointy end of the competiton now and there are a number of matches that need to be played before the end of October so we can have the big GRAND FINAL EVENT the first Wednesday of November (weather permitting of course)

A Grade

Paul Cheers needs to play Ron Thornton for a spot in the final against Murray Sharp

B Grade

Kelton Lee needs to play Reuban Carr and
Chris Wallace needs to play Jarryd O'Connell

The winners of these two matches will play off in the final

C Grade

Steve Brack needs to play Rick Eygelshoven, the winner of that match needs to play Leigh Titteron for a spot in the final

On the otherside of the draw Solomon Lee needs to play Mick Munro for a place in the final

All these matches need to be played before the end of October
