Bugong Gap, Red Rocks & Kangaroo Valley
Bit of luck on this ride as some of it is on private land. I tried to get permission to see if it was OK to ride through, but was working on rumours (if you know the landowners could you please inform me).
Start at the bottom of Mt Skanzi Road and work your way up to the plateau where you take a left turn down a driveway (Bugong Gap Trail). Just before the drive divides towards houses, the old logging trail is visible on your left. A spectacular ride through old logging trails in the Cambewarra National Park. Visit the Red Rocks lookout for a sight to believe. Then a heart-thumping ride back to the Cambewarra Mountain hairpin bend, followed by an even better ride down Moss Vale Road back to Kangaroo Valley (always wanted to do that).
Ride is 30km and gives a really good workout – allow 2 hours
P.S. My apologies to the landowners if I caused any problems

Porters Creek Dam Ride
OMG- we hit 70kmh on the way back down, but what the heck! Park just off the Princess Hwy at Yatte Yattah, and start pedalling up Porters Creek Road through some beautiful countryside before making a slow and steady ride up the mountain. It’s sealed most of the way, and turns to dirt when you hit the top. Go to the Pointer Gap Lookout to see how far and high you have come.
Continue onwards to the Porters Creek Dam and lake. There is the Little Forrest Walking Track along the way, so lock up your bikes there and have an explore.
Then start heading down the mountain at whatever speed you feel happy with.

Coolendel Camping Ground Ride
Another gem this one! Park in the car park for the kayak/canoe launching point on Bamarang Rd. Head back to Yalwal Road and then follow Burrier Rd all the way to Grassy Gully Rd which takes you nearly all the way to Coolendel. Great views of the Shoalhaven River and some ups and downs as you go along- it’s quite surprising how high you can go in a short time. The forest all around is regenerating after the bushfires, and the dirt road is in good condition. The ride back picks up speed on the tarmac about 5km out from home with some nice twisty bends to enjoy.

Granite Falls George Boyd Lookout
Before anything, if approaching from the north to the start at 12 Mile Road, go past it until you can do a safe U-turn, otherwise you are turning over double-yellow lines on a dual carriageway. Bendalong Road is the next major intersection for you to use.
This ride is another surprise with great rock formations and spectacular lookouts, and an even better walk underneath the lookout cliffs. Great picnic area there too. The Granite Falls were closed when we got there, so saving that for a return visit.

Mt Kingiman Milton Loop
A fantastic ride that has a gradual climb to a ridge running north from Mt Kingiman (my favourite so far)
Then take the Northern Buffer Trail (a steep logging track) straight down with great bumps to Carriages Rd.
Have a well-deserved picnic across the bridge on the grass verge on the LHS before returning to Milton.
Ride takes about 2.5 hours over 32 km with some juice left in the tank at the end.

Walter Hood Memorial Ride
A nice ride from Cudmirrah (near Sussex Inlet) along well maintained dirt roads with 4 creek crossings. It's an out and back ride.
Learn about the wreck of the Walter Hood, and if the tracks are open, head north-east off the road just before the memorial to the Mermaid Rock Pool (otherwise leave your bikes locked near the memorial and walk north along the beach).
Ride is 26km return - allow 2-3 hours.

Tallowa Dam Ride
This one stretched the batteries perfectly with1 bar left at the end. Start in Kangaroo Valley and turn in Mt Skanzi Rd. Follow it straight ahead to Tallowa Dam (was COVID-closed when we went). Before descending to the picnic areas at the dam, take a ride on the 3 Views Walking Track on the left. We rode to the Lake Yarrunga View for some great views.
The ride down to the dam is adrenalin-filled, and makes you super pleased to have power on the way back up.
Ride is 54km return – allow 3-4 hours

Join the excitment, thrills and exhaustion of Lynda and Mark who are both in their mid-60's. They love the fun to be had riding their E-bikes in the Shoalhaven Region, but don't have the legs for normal MTB riding.
Please post any comments or suggestions e.g. for other rides
