Vale Stella Bella - Larapinta Evening Star 💫

Today we had to say goodbye to our beautiful Stella, who rather unexpectedly decided it was her time. I’m fairly sure she would’ve 27 this year, and at not far off 18hh, and a few near death experiences along the way her life was long, her retirement peaceful and her impact lasting.

Stella produced some incredible babies, including two for us in Teddy and Juna and loved being a mum, but her post foaling health scares had me calling an early retirement - despite protests from just about everyone, including the vet!

The ultimate of big friendly giants, Stella has spent the last 8 years of her retirement roaming the paddocks of Shelbourne and hills of Baringhup, loving nothing more than a scratch and a snack and I’m sure her horsey heaven will be filled with plenty of both.

Well, had to call a WFH day today, normally this is how I would get out - not today 🙈 I tipped out 55mm from about 7pm. Can say all the dams are full, after being very much empty coming into winter! Now some sunshine to make things grow would be nice ☀️

I guess you would say the love of horses won. I am a terrible business person. Our paddocks are filled with more retirees and ornaments than they are broodmares and youngstock - but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Thanks to this guy though we have kept our heads above water, droughts and all as he continues to produce incredible foals who become even better horses. D’ante, rightful king of Sheoak Park 🫶

Burt questioning his life choices. I watched him jump into this taped off section for the fun of it. Then he spent 40 minutes trying to work out how to get out again 🤦‍♀️ He could not solve the problem - so I had to take the tape down, then roll it up because he refused to walk over it, horses 🙃🤣

This photo contains three of the most pivotal people to Sheoak Park. Myself, my Dad and an incredible vet who, without her we would’ve quit many times (Sorry Josh, you were home feeding horses at time of said photo!)

Today’s post though, is dedicated to my Dad - it’s a ‘Happy Birthday’ post. I am so incredibly to have someone like my Dad in our life. For supporting us with the original loan to kick start the stud, to his countless hours building fences/stables/crushes/sheds, trips to the vets, many hours meeting vets for scans when we were at work, foal watch duty, house-sitting so we can go away - the list is genuinely endless.

He refers to himself as the unpaid stud manager, but he is so much more than that. He might’ve have thought he was ‘another horsey girls dad’ during my time of riding, but really the duties really kicked off in adulthood 🙈

Each year is a busy one and I am eternally grateful for him taking on some of that busy!
