The Year of Five | Supporting Retired Racehorses

Five years after the launch of the OTTWA Passport initiative in 2020, we are proud to announce we have approved our five thousandth retired racehorse!

Our five thousandth horse claimed was ‘Redwood Rising’, a 2016 Thoroughbred gelding who retired from racing in 2023.

This is a monumental milestone for the Passport initiative, providing us with insight into the whereabouts of 5,000 retired Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds and providing thousands of owners’ access to support and incentives. We are thrilled to have reached this number and look forward to continuing to support more and more horses as they transition from racing into performance, pleasure or companionship homes.
