The medallion, dated February 20th 1937, belonged to H. Argyle and was found on a beach by Fremantle Surf Life Saving Club Historian Brian Troy.
Mr Troy discovered the medallion belonged to a man named Hurburt Argyle who was a Scarboro Surf Life Saving Club member and lived at 8 Knutsford Street, Fremantle.
“We’re hoping to find out if there are any descendants or relatives of H. Argyle. He was born in 1916 and died in 1988, he was surf boat vice-captain in 1937 and 1938,” he told 102.5 ABC Perth.
“He certainly has lots of brothers and sisters and we’re hoping that somebody will come forward and fill in some more details.”
Mr Troy recently presented the medal to Scarboro Surf Life Saving Club for safekeeping, and now the club wants to reunite the medallion with a descendant or relative for its upcoming centenary celebrations.
A list of Bronze holders revealed that H. Argyle was the 100th Scarboro club member to receive the bronze medallion.
Scarboro life member Doug McGhie said the bronze medallion would easily be the oldest in the club’s possession.
The image on the medal also provides a glimpse into Western Australia’s surf lifesaving history, the pair depicted are fitting a reel line and cork belt which were used for sea rescues before boats and jet skis.
