This week at Sawtell Scouts and Cubs, our young people put their teamwork and Scout skills to the test as they worked in patrols to build emergency shelters.

Using ropes, tarps and plenty of problem-solving, each patrol had to work together to design and construct a shelter that would stay standing and provide protection from the elements. It wasn't always smooth sailing, with a bit of trial and error along the way, but that's all part of the learning experience!

Throughout the activity, our Cubs and Scouts demonstrated fantastic communication, leadership and teamwork as they shared ideas, overcame challenges and adapted their designs. It was great to see everyone working together, supporting one another and developing valuable Skills for Life.

Well done to all our young people for their creativity, persistence and patrol spirit! ๐Ÿ•๏ธ๐Ÿ‘

Scouting isn't just about knots and camping!

Last weekend, one of our leaders, Hagrid, headed to Sherwood Forest near Glenreagh to take part in a Vertical Skills Weekend.

Throughout the weekend, he learned and practised a range of rope and height-based skills as part of working towards his abseiling qualifications. Opportunities like this not only allow our leaders to develop new skills and challenge themselves, but also help them bring exciting and adventurous activities back to our young people.

One of the great things about Scouting is that the adventure doesn't stop with the youth members. As an adult volunteer, there are endless opportunities to learn new skills, gain qualifications, make lifelong friendships, and have adventures of your own.

You really can do anything with Scouting!

If you'd like to find out how you can get involved as an adult volunteer, we'd love to chat. Get in touch with us to learn more about the opportunities available.

๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿฎ Lismore Lantern Parade 2026 ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿ‰

This evening, one of our Sawtell leaders, LadyBug, joined forces with the Kyogle Scout Group to take part in the 32nd Annual Lismore Lantern Parade.

Held on Saturday, 20 June, the parade celebrated the Winter Solstice, bringing together thousands of people carrying handcrafted lanterns through the streets of Lismore. The evening featured live music, vibrant community spirit, and the spectacular Fiery Finale at Oakes Oval.

LadyBug and the Kyogle Scouts had the privilege of helping carry one of the oldest lanterns in the parade โ€“ a magnificent dragon lantern that has been a treasured part of this iconic community event for many years.

This year's parade celebrated the themes of the Chinese Year of the Fire Horse, the Return of the Sun, and Community Togetherness โ€“ values that align closely with the spirit of Scouting.

What a wonderful opportunity to be part of such a colourful and inspiring community tradition, bringing people together to celebrate creativity, culture, and connection.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Looking for an adventure for your 11โ€“14 year old? ๐Ÿ”ฅ

The Scout Section at Sawtell currently has vacancies for young people aged 11โ€“14 years, and there has never been a better time to join!

This week, our Scouts got hands-on experience exploring different types of hiking stoves, learning the advantages and disadvantages of each and discovering how to choose the right equipment for an outdoor adventure. They also investigated food options for multi-day hikes and were surprised by the huge variety of lightweight and nutritious meals available for the trail. Of course we finished the vending off by cooking the most delicious smashed burger tacos!

Scouting is about so much more than knots and camping. It helps young people develop skills for life, build confidence, strengthen resilience, and grow leadership and teamwork skills. Through fun, challenging, and adventurous activities, Scouts learn to step outside their comfort zones and discover what they are capable of achieving.

If you'd like your child to enjoy experiences like this, make new friends, and be part of an exciting youth program, we'd love to hear from you!

Hall Sleepover Adventure! ๐Ÿ•๏ธ

This weekend, the Sawtell Cubs and Scouts enjoyed an action-packed hall sleepover full of challenges, teamwork, and plenty of fun!

Our youth members reached new heights as they took on crate stacking, pushing beyond their comfort zones, building confidence, and working together to achieve their goals. There were so many firsts and new experiences throughout the weekend.

The excitement continued with a suspended slackline challenge, followed by the always-popular sock wrestling, where participants were suspended in the air and had to try and remove their opponent's socks before losing their own!

After a big day of activities, everyone relaxed with pizza and a movie on Saturday night.

Sunday morning saw the group head out for a short walk from the hall, taking the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful surroundings that Sawtell has to offer.

Weekends like this help our Cubs and Scouts develop resilience, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and confidence, all while having a great time with friends.

If you'd like your child to experience adventures like these, we'd love to hear from you! We currently have places available in both our Cubs (ages 8โ€“11) and Scouts (ages 11โ€“14) sections. We meet on Tuesday nights during school term.

What a great night at Sawtell Cubs and Scouts!

The evening started with learning about the Scout Promise and Scout Law, along with exploring the history of Scouting and how it has grown over the years.

We then moved on to a hands-on STEM challenge, building mini catapults using paddle pop sticks and rubber bands. The activity encouraged our Cubs and Scouts to use critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and teamwork as they experimented with different designs to make their catapults work. Some were definitely more successful than others!

To finish off the night, we held a catapult shoot-off to see whose creation could launch the furthest. There was plenty of excitement, laughter, and friendly competition as everyone put their designs to the test.

If your child would like to be part of fun, engaging activities like this while learning skills for life, get in touch to find out more about our 4-week free trial and discover what Scouting is all about.

What a weekend!

This weekend Sawtell Scouts headed to the North Coast Region Rally, joining forces with 1st Kempsey Scout Group to form a patrol for the competition.

Region Rally is an action-packed competition camp where Scouts hike between a variety of challenges and activities while carrying all of their own gear. It's a true test of teamwork, resilience, problem-solving and Scout skills.

This year's activities included mountain biking, archery, high ropes, orienteering, fire lighting and even a Wild West-themed shooting gallery, along with many other exciting challenges throughout the weekend.

The patrol worked incredibly well together, supporting one another, solving problems, taking on new challenges and, most importantly, having plenty of fun along the way.

All their hard work and teamwork paid off with an outstanding result โ€“ the patrol finished equal second overall on points! ๐ŸŽ‰

A massive achievement for everyone involved. Congratulations to all the Scouts for representing Sawtell with enthusiasm, determination and great Scout spirit. We are incredibly proud of you all and can't wait to hear more stories from the weekend's adventures! โšœ๏ธ๐Ÿ•๏ธ๐Ÿ‘

This week at Sawtell Scouts, it was all about getting ready for Region Rally! ๐Ÿ•๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Region Rally is a competition camp for the Scout section, and we are excited that Daniel will be representing Sawtell Scouts! ๐Ÿ‘

Throughout the evening, Scouts got hands-on preparing for camp life โ€” packing bags, putting up tents, and practising important scouting skills ready for the big weekend ahead. โ›บ๐ŸŽ’๐Ÿงญ

We know Daniel is going to have an amazing experience, make new friends, and learn plenty along the way. We canโ€™t wait to hear all the stories and adventures when camp is over!
