🏹 A BIG WEEKEND OF ARCHERY AT BAIRNSDALE FIELD ARCHERS 🏹

It’s been another fantastic weekend at Bairnsdale Field Archers, with plenty of arrows flying, some great scores, and most importantly, plenty of people enjoying what our club has to offer.

🏆 SUNDAY — BRANCH G 3D SHOOT

Today we welcomed 32 archers to BFA for our Branch G 3D shoot.

For 15 of our members, today was their first ever 3D shoot, with some also experiencing their first Branch shoot. A huge welcome to you all! We hope you enjoyed the challenge, the course and the atmosphere, and that today is the start of many more Branch shoots to come. 👏🏹

We couldn’t have asked for better shooting conditions, with the weather making for a perfect day on the course.

There were also some fantastic individual performances:

🎯 Jason — 780, a new PB by 2 points
🎯 Carl — 714, matching his PB
🎯 Bailey — 570, smashing his previous best by 108 points
🎯 David — 64 points better than his previous score set during the National Safari earlier this year

And in a great sibling battle, Jimmy and Maggie couldn’t be separated, both finishing on exactly 664 points! 😲

The changes to our 3D course, including the new shooting lanes and layout improvements, were also very positively received, with the feedback from today’s archers making all the hard work worthwhile.

A huge amount of work has gone into getting the Bottom Range ready, and today was a real testament to the efforts of Graham, David, Jason and all the members who helped both today and at last week’s working bee. What started as a different layout and some big changes has really come together into a course that everyone can enjoy. 💪

And we can’t forget our new canteen crew! A massive thank you to the two amazing people who helped keep our archers fed and looked after today. The support behind the scenes is a huge part of what makes these shoots such enjoyable days for everyone. 🌭🥤👏

🏹 SATURDAY — ABA CLUB SHOOT

Yesterday we held our usual Saturday ABA Handicap shoot, with 14 archers taking on the Top Range.

There may not have been any new PBs, but the competition was incredibly close, with almost half the field separated by just 8 points!

Andy Bennett and Mark Henger both finished on 398, with the result decided on countback. Mark took second place after being the first to drop 2 points, leaving Andy to take the win.

🥇 Andy Bennett — 398
🥈 Mark Henger — 398
🥉 Carl — 396
🥉 Jason — 396

A great weekend of shooting, competition and camaraderie at Bairnsdale Field Archers.

Thanks to everyone who came along, helped out, competed, supported the shoots or simply spent the weekend enjoying the club. This is what makes BFA such a great place to be. ❤️🏹

The Victorian ABA State Championships were held this weekend at Phoenix Field Archers of Sale, with five archers proudly representing Bairnsdale Field Archers.

The weather turned out to be excellent for the competition, with barely any wind and plenty of sunshine throughout the day, helping to warm up the very cool morning starts. Our members were able to take advantage of the ideal shooting conditions and produced some outstanding performances across the two-day event.

🏹 Steven Lea continued his outstanding form, shooting 756 on Day 1 and 754 on Day 2 for a tournament total of 1510. Steven finished equal first, sharing the title of Victorian State ABA Champion in A Grade Bowhunter Unlimited Compound.

🏹 Charlotte Veness shot 648 and 622 for a tournament total of 1270, earning the title of Victorian State ABA Champion in A Grade Bowhunter Compound.

🏹 Brett Dennison scored 716 on Day 1 before producing a superb 758 on Day 2, a new personal best by 32 points, for a tournament total of 1474, claimed 1st Place in C Grade Bowhunter Unlimited Compound. His Day 2 performance also marked his fourth consecutive B Grade qualifying score, earning him promotion to B Grade for the next ABA Branch shoot. Congratulations Brett on a well deserved milestone!

🏹 Zoe Stanford continued her impressive progress, improving from 362 on Day 1 to a new personal best of 420 on Day 2, a 44-point improvement and her first B Grade qualifying score. Zoe finished with a tournament total of 782, placing 2nd in C Grade Bowhunter Recurve.

🏹 David Hattam shot 622 on Day 1 before improving to 664 on Day 2, finishing with a tournament total of 1286 in A Grade Freestyle Limited Recurve.

While the competition was fierce, one of the highlights of the weekend came away from the shooting line. The Bairnsdale team enjoyed a fantastic Saturday night cook-up, with Brett serving an incredible lamb spit and roasted potatoes. To top off the evening, David brought along his mum’s homemade blueberry pie, served with homemade custard, a dessert that disappeared almost as quickly as it was served!

Congratulations to all five archers on representing Bairnsdale Field Archers with pride. We’re especially proud to celebrate two State Champions, several personal bests, and another well-earned grade promotion. A fantastic weekend all round! 🎯

🏹 The ABA State Championships are Almost Here! 🏹

📍 Hosted by Phoenix Field Archers of Sale
🗓️ 1–2 August 2026

With Sale just down the road, there are very few excuses to miss the Victorian ABA Championships! It’s a great opportunity to enjoy a weekend of archery without the long distance travel.

If you’ve been spending the last few months practising your ABA skills, this is your chance to step onto the course with confidence and see what you’re capable of. We’ve all heard the saying, “Shooting IFAA makes you a better ABA archer.” If you’ve spent the last few months shooting IFAA, now’s the time to put that theory to the test.

Whether you’re aiming for a podium finish, chasing a personal best, or simply looking forward to a great weekend of archery with friends, the State Championships are always a fantastic event.

Good luck to everyone competing, we can’t wait to see our members putting those distance judging skills to the test and flying the BFA flag high! 🏹💙💛
