Rocking A Horsemanship

Rocking A Horsemanship I never realised how much drama people had with the simple task of loading their horse onto a float. So I figured, why not help others.

People would always ask me how do I get my horses to load the way they do? conquer one bad floater at a time.

This big lad got his first ride today.
On the first ride I'm not worried about steering. The only thing I'm looking for is good flexing, establishing a one rein stop in all gaits, and moving forwards freely at all speeds when asked. The first couple rides arent generally long and stop once they get the basics. Altivo ticked all the boxes nicely and calmly today like a boss. 👌💪

Some horses come and go. Some are easier to pass on to their new homes, and some come in, attach to your heartstrings and make you cry like a child that's just lost their toy. It's harder when they come in with broken pieces in their soul and you've watched them blossom.
Dallas was one. Though I cried watching him go im excited to see his future.

This sassy lady come in to get some work. The owner couldn't get her to lunge, and when asked to go forward under saddle she would pin her ears and run backwards. She is also the star of the tying video.
She is still is a little sassy and doesnt want to give up her 'Queen Sass' title as clearly seen in her ears.
Making progress with her slowly but surely

I hummed and hawed about posting this but at the end of the day when dealing with horses it can be pretty ugly. Had to take some more serious actions with this girl. And think outside the box. Rigged something up high she couldn't wrap herself around and had spring to it to absorb some movement. All clips were replaced with D shackles and had to just let her discover her tricks were no longer going to work.
This girl had figured out she could snap things to get off or would setback when being lead cause she would decide she wanted to go home.
When she figured out she could no longer achieve her desired outcome she has started to change her attitude. But there was battles along the way. She is well on the way to being safer.

The first video was her first tie up when it become apparent she didn't know how to stand still and just after she started her tricks.
The last video is how a horse should be while being tied up.

We as equine owners need to set our horses up for success. In her case this particular part wasn't.

She was never left unsupervised during this, I sat on a camp chair under the trees for for hours at the beginning keeping 2 eyes on her.
She will stay tied with the setback collar till I know I can trust her.

Done some float training with some friends young horses they've just recently sold.
As always, they were a pleasure to deal with and with a very trainable sensible mind.
If you are looking for good quality stock I highly suggest getting intouch with Valley End Quarter Horses
