NSW TOO STRONG FOR TASMANIA IN PEET KAY GROUP CONTEST

The Peet Kay Tour Group Tasmania's annual trip to Sydney to contest the NSW leg of the Peet Kay Trophy last week was played in excellent bowling conditions, however, NSW proved too strong for the Tasmanians.

Overall scores for the three-day contest were NSW 501 shots to Tasmania 389 shots.

The Peet Kay Group was founded in 1961 and is a bi-annual competition between NSW and Tasmania providing for interstate contests for players who are not selected in official interstate matches.

In summing up the NSW leg of the competition, Tasmanian team leader Mr Ian Edwards said, “despite the Tasmanians being outplayed on the bowling green the hospitality and bowling experience was a huge success”. He went on to thank all those who participated, the volunteers behind the scenes and to Bowls Tasmania for their continued support.

The Tasmanian leg of the competition will be contested in Hobart on Sunday 24 to Wednesday 27 January 2027. Anyone who may be interested in being considered for player selection should contact Ian Edwards on 0417 589 423.

THE ONLY WAY IS UP FOR AMITY BICKLEY

Congratulations to Port Sorell’s Amity Bickley who has been chosen in Bowls Australia’s Performance Pathways Team for the 2026 Oceania Challenge in Auckland, New Zealand from 19 – 22 November 2026 . Amity’s selection follow an extensive 12-month period of assessment across competition results, commitment to the Jackaroos Performance Pathways program and training camps, culminating in the recent National Development Series where her performances were exceptional. Well done, Amity.

FURTHER CHANGE TO TASMANIAN TEAM FOR THE NATIONALS 2026

Congratulations to Kingborough's Jason Fowler who has been chosen in the Men's Open team to represent Tasmania at the Men's Open Sides Championships to be played at Osborne Park Bowling Club in WA in October 2026. Jason has been chosen to replace Port Sorell's Bailey Bellchambers who has withdrawn due to work commitments.

2026 AUSTRALIAN TRANSPLANT GAMES

The 2026 Australian Transplant Games are being held in Launceston from 26 September 2026 to 3 October 2026, with lawn bowls now confirmed on the games schedule.

The Australian Transplant Games bring together more than 500 transplant recipients, living donors, family members, supporters and spectators from across Australia for a week of sport, connection and celebration of the gift of life.

Entries closed last week with a tentative 61 participants entered into the lawn bowls singles competition on Monday 28 September 2026 and 40 participants for the lawn bowls pairs competition on Wednesday 30 September 2026, with both events being held at the Kings Meadows Bowls Club.

Transplant Australia has asked Bowls Tasmania to spread the word about the Transplant Games and to help promote volunteer opportunities about the Transplant Games and to identify and obtain markers, umpires and scoreboard attendants for the lawn bowls competitions.

🌟Congratulations Rebecca Van Asch

Congratulations to Rebecca Van Asch who has been appointed as Bowls Australia’s Acting Performance Director until further notice, following the resignation of Garry Willis, who was Bowls Australia’s Performance Director and National Coach.

🌟Australian Indoor Championships

Congratulations to Port Sorell’s Codi Marshall and South Burnie’s Glenda Fielding, who represented Tasmania at the Australian Indoor Singles Championships, which were held at Club Tweed in New South Wales from 10 – 13 August 2026.

In the knock-out Men’s event, second-seed Codi Marshall won his first two matches but was narrowly defeated in the quarterfinals 7-8 and 6-8 by St. John’s Park’s Travis Moran, the event’s runner-up, and was eliminated

In the knock-out Women’s event, Glenda Fielding was defeated in the first round and was eliminated.

🌟National Bowling Arm Championships

The Tasmanian team in alphabetical order is Sally Archer, Geoff Buchanan, Paul Bugg, John Burley, Chook Downie, Ian Gilbert, Peter Kemp, Charkes (Bill) Mottershead, Rod O'Halloran, Noel Purton, Noelene Purton (Team Manager), Joe Reissig, Les Reynolds, Michael Shingles, David Sims, Peter Thow (Coach), Robert Webb and Doreen White.

🌟BPL Cup State Finals

Twenty-two teams have qualified for the State finals of the BPL Cup, which is a record high for Bowls Tasmania – compared to sixteen teams in 2025. Regional finals will now be required and will be played at Longford and Howrah on Sunday 13 September 2026, with the State Final being played at Howrah on Sunday 27 September 2026.

Regional finals will consist of:

Longford: 3 sections (2 sections of 3 teams and 1 section of 4 teams).
Howrah: 3 sections of 4 teams.
The winner of each section will qualify for the State Final, which will consist of 2 sections of 3 teams, followed by a grand final to determine the winner. The grand final will be live-streamed on Bowls Tasmania’s YouTube channel.
