SYC Women in Sailing

Such an amazing three days of racing for the 34th Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta. There were 36 boats competing with over 220 women on board. Teams from interstate including NT, NSW, TAS, SA & even NZL flew in to take part. Sandringham Yacht Club was well represented with more than 30 women competing. Light conditions on the first two days were a bit tricky to navigate but Monday turned on a glorious day with three races run to wrap up the regatta. The atmosphere over the whole weekend was buzzing. So much enjoyment, laughter, support, and friendship. Shout out to RMYS for running such a great event. This week we are celebrating some of the incredible volunteers who make our sport possible!

Mischa Suda was one of the finalists for Volunteer of the Year for the 2025 Australian Sailing Victoria Awards.

At just 19 Mischa has become a standout volunteer and young leader at Sandringham Yacht Club. Driving youth engagement through initiatives like the J/70 Young Member Nights, advocating for young sailors on the committee and combining her dedication on and off the water to make sailing more inclusive, accessible and inspiring for others.

Thank you Mischa and to all the volunteers who keep our sport going both on and off the water!

The SYC Commodores Challenge was held on Sunday with teams from MYC, RBYC, RMYS, RYCV and SYC navigating the light winds to complete three competitive races on the fleet of J70s.

Congratulations to our SYC girls: Lulu Di Sciascio, Alice Endersbee, Holly Hunt, Zoe Jackson and Brooke Robson who won the 2026 trophy. They were closely followed by the team from Mornington Yacht Club: Sophie McKenzie, Mel Hitchen-Haw, Rose Carlson and Isabelle Corcoran who took second place.

A huge thanks to the Race Management team and volunteers - we couldn’t run these great events without you!!!
