Tonight our XCR crew were back at the track. A huge thanks to Ben for serving up his famous post-training soup – always a crowd favourite!

We were also lucky to be joined by Mia Gray, a past SLAC athlete who is currently preparing for the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene later this year.

It was fantastic for our athletes to hear about Mia's journey and see first-hand the commitment, consistency and hard work required to compete on the world stage.

Great session, great company and plenty of motivation for the weeks ahead.

SLAC athlete Spotlight

Huge congratulations to Talia on being selected to represent Vic Metro in the U16 Girls Marsh AFL National Development Championships during the school holidays.

This competition is the highest level of state and territory representative football, showcasing the most talented under-16 players from across Australiaβ€”the next generation of stars. Being chosen is an outstanding achievement and a testament to your dedication and hard work. Talia is also a member of the Sandringham Dragons U16 and U18 Girls squads in the AFL Talent League.

And a week out from that, Talia was in Brisbane at the Athletics Australia National Championships, jumping, running and throwing for Victoria.

The Sandringham Little Athletics Club (SLAC) community is celebrating another special achievement, with former athlete Patrick Retschko making his AFL debut for the Richmond Football Club last against the North Melbourne Football Club, sharing the occasion with good friend and fellow former SLAC alumnus Hugo Ralphsmith.

Patrick spent five years at SLAC, where he developed his athletic ability while forming strong, lasting friendships. He has fond memories of representing the club at various carnivals, with relay events a particular highlight combining fun, teamwork, and a strong sense of team spirit.

The Sandringham Little Athletics community extends its congratulations to Patrick on this outstanding achievement and wishes him every success as he continues to grow and make his mark in the AFL.
