GROWING ADAPTIVE COACHING INTO THE FUTURE 👨🏫
I am truly grateful for the opportunity to share knowledge and best practices around All Abilities Golf with PGA associates in Victoria and New South Wales. This experience was not only about teaching technical skills, but also about fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with visual disabilities.
The ability to help others appreciate the nuances of adaptive golf and how it can empower individuals of all abilities was both rewarding and humbling.
Throughout the sessions, there was an abundance of laughter and learning as the PGA associates took on the challenge of experiencing the world through the eyes of someone with varying levels of visual impairment. It was powerful to watch them attempt to play and navigate the course with different adaptive techniques—some blindfolded, some using specialized tools, others relying on guide assistance.
The physical challenge was evident, but it was the emotional and psychological aspect that truly shifted perspectives.
What stood out most was the immense resilience displayed by those living with disabilities.
Their determination, talent, and drive to excel in golf despite the challenges they face daily was absolutely inspiring. Many of the PGA associates found themselves not just learning the mechanics of adaptive golf but also developing a deep sense of respect and admiration for the athletes they were shadowing.
In the end, this experience was about more than just golf. It was about shifting perspectives, increasing empathy, and creating a greater appreciation for the abilities that individuals with disabilities possess, often against the odds. I’m incredibly thankful for this opportunity to engage with such passionate professionals and to contribute to a more inclusive, understanding approach to golf for all.
