Sad to read of the passing of Marian Brennan, spouse of the late Arthur Brennan (d.2013)
Arthur was the Club's long time Bar Manager and Marian a great Club supporter for many years.
Marian was a well known local who served as President of the Phillip Island and San Remo War Widows Club.
Deepest sympathy to the Brennan family.

Sad news today with the passing of Ronnie Baker the Boy from Bradford.
Ronnie was an icon around the San Remo Bowls Club for many years especially on the social scene.
A raconteur extraordinaire, his tales, real and imagined, from Bradford and beyond, held audiences spellbound and then rolling in laughter time and time again.
He compered most of our social functions. Xmas and Cup nights led by Ron were always memorable. He had the crowd always listening, expecting the unexpected!
He was the first and last Honorary President of the Old Farts Club which was a gathering (of mainly male members and friends) held every Friday night rain, hail or shine. With his sidekick V President the late Bob Saward by his side he would hold court each Friday listening to all the banter and bu****it being spoken around him. He would intervene at appropriate times with a comment or story. Never controversial...always funny.
Ronnie was a useful bowler too with a peculiar style which baffled team mates and opponent alike. His feet always seemed to be pointing in the wrong direction! Strange for most but not for Ron ..he was different! He was a quiet no fuss team mate, good company in the car, on the green and in the bar afterwards.
Ronnie was carer for the love of his life Rita who suffered ill health before she passed some years ago.
A long time resident of San Remo Ronnie moved into care in Cowes a few years back.
Deepest sympathy to the Baker family.

VALE GREG STUART

Long time San Remo Bowls Club member Greg Stuart has passed away.
Greg was a member of the Club for many years until he moved to a retirement village in Cranbourne.
Fondly known as ' Scooter' by some of his clubmates, Greg had recently moved to a facility in Brighton, close to family, and it was there he passed peacefully at the age of 95 last Friday.
(The nickname was because Greg often rode his motor scooter to bowls at the Club instead of driving his Merc.....we often wondered how he made it home safely after post-match drinks!!)
Greg and his late wife Norma were great contributors to the Club both in terms of their time and financially. The Club recognized their contribution with a Certificate of Appreciation. Greg served in a number of voluntary positions over the years.
Greg was a very keen and very competitive bowler. He took part in any events going around the Bowls Club as well as neighbouring Clubs. He was also a regular at the annual RSL Edinburgh Shield events held around the State. He loved the social roll ups held on Wednesdays and Saturdays and would turn up to manage them sun, rain or hail.
He played Saturday Pennant and his exploits are legendary. Not only on the rinks but also on the road to Pennant games if he happened to be the designated driver. He penchant for going at 100kms on the wrong side of the road over the Strzeleckis made teammates shiver at the thought of going home! But he always got there and back.
Playing with Greg as his skipper could be a nightmare because he always played HIS way. His convenient hearing deficit often given as an excuse.

Greg was a cool ,strong character with a dry sense of humour who stood his ground when he had to. Norma was the love of his life and he missed her greatly when she passed some years ago.

He will be greatly missed, and deepest sympathy goes to the Stuart family.
