🏏🔴 SEASON 2026/27 – WE ARE RAISING THE BAR 🔴🏏

At Nelson Bay Cricket Club, we would much rather celebrate good behaviour than police bad behaviour — but there is a line.

Cricket should be competitive, passionate and enjoyable, but undermining or abusing an umpire is never acceptable and can put your team’s result at risk.

If something happens during a match, please report it to the club as soon as possible so it can be lodged with NDCA.

Serious or repeated breaches will be dealt with under the NDCA Code of Conduct, up to and including suspension.

This applies to players, coaches, parents, supporters and officials. We all have a responsibility to set the right example, particularly around our junior players.

And finally, a huge thank you to the overwhelming majority of our Makos family who already support our players, respect our umpires and represent our club the right way.

Our junior teams are coming together for the 2026/27 season, and we’re nearly there!

🔴 UNDER 9’s – ONLY 4 MORE PLAYERS NEEDED!
We’re just four players short of completing our U9’s team. Boys and girls of all abilities are welcome — no experience necessary!

🔵 UNDER 11’s – STILL LOOKING!
We’re still chasing players to join our U11’s. Whether you’ve played before or want to give cricket a go for the first time, we’d love to have you.

✅ ONE UNDER 13’s TEAM – FULL!
Great news — one of our Under 13’s teams is now full! We’re thrilled with the response and can’t wait to see the kids out on the field this season.

A massive thank you to Jarrod Munro for his leadership last season. Jarrod did a fantastic job leading the side, and his contribution certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed. This season, we’re looking forward to continuing to grow his leadership within our Div 4 group and seeing him play an important role both on and off the field.

Congratulations to everyone appointed. Leadership isn’t just about the C or VC next to your name — it’s about setting the standard, backing your teammates and helping build the culture we want at the Makos.

You can almost hear it already…

☀️ The warmer days are arriving.
🌱 The smell of freshly cut grass.
🏏 The unmistakable sound of leather hitting willow.

That can only mean one thing — cricket season is just around the corner!

The Nelson Bay Makos senior pre-season continues this Sunday 30th August from 11:00am at Salamander Sports Complex.

Whether you’re a returning Mako, haven’t picked up a bat for a few years, or you’re looking for a new club to call home — come down and have a hit.

No pressure. No egos. Just cricket, mateship and getting ready for a huge 2026/27 season.

🏏 MEET THE MAKOS’ 2026/27 LEADERSHIP GROUP! 🦈

This Sunday, our committee will be meeting to appoint our Senior Captains, Vice Captains and Team Managers for the 2026/27 season.

Then from around 5:00pm, we’ll fire up the BBQ and officially announce our new leadership group! 🔥🌭🏏

Come down to the clubhouse at Salamander Sports Complex for a BBQ, a beverage, a catch-up and the chance to meet the people who’ll be helping lead the Makos this season.

And hopefully guiding us towards a few premierships along the way! 🏆🏆😉

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Kids and partners are absolutely welcome — this is a whole-club get-together, so bring the family down and enjoy the afternoon with the Makos.

🏏 PRESIDENT’S REPORT – CRICKET SEASON IS ALMOST HERE! 🏏

As President, it’s exciting to see the club starting to come alive again as cricket season approaches.

As the winter sports season begins to wrap up, the days are getting longer, the sunshine is returning and it won’t be long before we hear that familiar sound of leather on willow around Salamander Sports Complex.

The Makos have been incredibly busy behind the scenes preparing for the 2026/27 season, both on and off the field.

Pre-season training is underway, and it’s been fantastic to see familiar faces returning, new players coming along and plenty of excitement building around our junior ranks. Seeing more kids getting involved in cricket is a huge part of what we want to achieve as a club.

A massive thank you to everyone who volunteered at our recent Bunnings BBQ, where we raised approximately $1,450. Every dollar raised goes straight back into supporting our club and our players.

Our sponsors have also been amazing. The support we continue to receive from local businesses allows us to keep improving what we can offer our juniors, seniors and families. We genuinely couldn’t do it without them.

A special thank you to Phil for organising the movement of our roller and to everyone who has been helping behind the scenes with our grounds, facilities, uniforms, equipment and administration. A lot of this work goes unseen, but it makes a massive difference.

There is still plenty of work ahead, but there is a really positive feeling building around the Makos.

Whether you’re a junior picking up a bat for the first time, a returning senior, parent, volunteer, sponsor or supporter — there’s a place for you at Nelson Bay Cricket Club.
