KIDS FUN AT THE BAY!

Come sailing with us in the April school holidays!

Get the kids out on the beautiful waters of Salamander Bay learning how to sail!

We supply the boats, lifejackets and an experienced & qualified instructor.

No previous sailing experience required.

Beginners start with the Tackers 1 course and sail in pairs.

Our more experienced participants progress to the Tackers 2 and Tackers 3 courses sailing single-handed.

Today we raced Day #1 of the Australian ILCA Masters Championship and an early beginning of Sail Port Stephens here at Bay Sailing Centre.

We have 175 boats competing from all around Australia; including a group of our club members representing Bay Sailing Centre and Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club.

Our volunteer Race Management Team will be up here conducting racing 6-9 February (Friday to Monday).

The Bay Sailing Centre clubhouse is open every day for this regatta (7am-6pm) so come on down fron 2pm each day to watch the racing.

TACKERS INTRO Sessions - 9:00am to 12:00pm

Bring the kids along for a fun session - from the sandy shores of Soldiers Point - so they can give sailing a try!

⛵ Suitable for kids 6-12 years
⛵ No previous sailing experience needed - suits absolute beginners
⛵ Lifejacket/PFD supplied
⛵ 3-hours of activity
⛵ $65 per person

Our fully qualified Tackers Leader and our Assistant Instructors will provide an active on-water session of sailing fun!

A SAILING G'DAY from The Bay,

We’ve had half a dozen ILCA dinghy sailors training/having fun in Salamander Bay in recent weeks.

BSC hosted Tackers 1, 2, & 3 (7 sailors) kids learn-to-sail program from 7th to 10th October.

The weather on Tuesday & Wednesday was Salamander Bay’s best (ENE, light), Thursday & Friday delivered WNW more difficult to teach in - but we managed by towing them out clear of the lee of the land.

The photo shows Tackers ‘following the leader’ with Instructor Zoe driving the Smartwave. Tackers Leader Rhino in a kayak getting up close at their level (when he could catch them!).

One of 3 Zoe's hiding shyly behind hers, while Chelsea on the far right is a bit extra excited having turned 9 yo this day.

I asked them 4 questions and received unanimous answers:
1. What’s the best sport in the world? . . . . Sailing
2. Did you have fun? . . . . Yes
3. Did you learn anything? . . . . Yes
4. Are you going to do more sailing? . . . . Yes

I therefore awarded them all Distinctions!

Sunday 12 October was the 1st Championship day of the season.

Race 1 was sailed in very light breeze NNW with an ebb tide. Peter Heywood beat Rhino by less than a boatlength.

The 30 knot W which decimated the 18 foot skiffs and hit the NCYC offshore fleet never arrived at Salamander Bay and AP over A was the call and the ILCAs were towed home in a glassout!

Those who know me would be aware I study the weather in depth but on Sunday my Flabber was well and truly Gasted!

I know, I know ‘Who won The Blue Swimmer?’ 'twas I - having pulled the boat over to windward in a lull twice.

There will be bright sails and big smiles on the water again during the school holidays at The Bay Sailing Centre . . .

A perfect opportunity for kids 7-12 years to learn to sail on the beautiful waters of Salamander Bay, under the guidance of our fully qualified instructors.

Join us for a 1/2 day 'Tackers Intro' to get a taste of the fun sailing offers, or jump in for a four-day learn-to-sail course, start at Tackers 1, then progress onto 'Tackers 2'.
