KMFC ALL-Australian Day Sunday 11/05/25

NOSTALGIA
noun

1. A whistful feeling for the past, often with a desire to return to a former time or place with a sentimental yearning.

2. A feeling of pleasure and sometimes slight sadness at the rememberance of things that happened in the past.

Until recently Psychologists argued that nostalgia and yearning for the past were debilative due to a search for something that never truly existed. But researchers have found that nostalgia can act as a neurological defense system that helps us overcome negative thoughts or experiences.

Nostalgia achieves this as it helps people to a temporary change in how they perceive their current state. This enables them the strength to persevere through hard times.

Hard times: Nostalgia as a defence against hard times? Righto, Lets take a run at it.

If this doesn't invoke a bitter sweet longing for a happier past, then perhaps you should read no further.

For those who recognise it for the Time portal it truly is: KMFC is hosting an All Australian Day this Sunday 11 /05/25

Australian models and engines were once the equal of anything from overseas and most importantly withing reach of small boys with limited pocket money. They filled the air, every weekend in suburban parks, with the very sounds and smells that fuel our nostalgia now.

Do come along, bring all your Australian stuff, it can only do you good.

KMFC Ringmaster fact checking event Sunday 16th February 2025

The Ringmaster S1, by Matt Kania, kitted by Sterling in 1950, has been glorified by more than the usual amount of misty eyed reverence.

This is printed on the the kit box:

RINGMASTER
PROFILE CONTROL LINE MODEL
EASILY ASSEMBLED – A CINCH TO FLY.

WORLDS BEST SELLING BALSA MODEL. BUILT
AND FLOWN BY MORE MODELLERS THAN ANY
OTHER POWERED MODEL PLANE KIT.

It's the second paragraph that give pause.

If you believe this, you probably bought X-Ray specs back in the '60s.

KMFC, the consumers friend, would like to put this assertion to the test:

On Sunday 16th Feb KMFC will host the worlds largest assembly of Ringmaster models. This event will be unparallelled in the history of this, or any other club, worldwide.

Bring yours, don't miss out! X-Ray Specs available at the door.

KMFC SUNDAY GALA 20/10/2024

Members and friends, this Sunday, 20/10/2024, KMFC will host a Club Stunt event and fun fly.

Can't fly stunt you say? Then Club Stunt is for you!

All it requires is an uneventful take off followed by a wing-over or loop or bunt or any other manoeuvre you nominate and wish to be judged on, followed by a controlled landing. If you can accomplish this without colliding with the terrain, you're in the money! Stunt aircraft are not mandatory, fly what you wish, it's all for the fun of it.

The other circles will be devoted to fun flying of anything you can persuade into the air.

Of course, the renowned KMFC BBQ luncheon will again feature to cap off nicely the day's fun.

People have been clamouring for more information about the engines that Rob has been quietly building in his backyard shed. So KMFC have sent off Jimmy Olsen, boy reporter - with strict instructions to stay out of the pubs - to find out more.
Watch this space.

As forecast, it’s too windy for flying today at Burford Day, but quite a few hardy souls are here. Rob brought his latest creations - a diesel of his own design with internals based on the Cox Conquest and a Sugden Special. And Goran brought a collection of Taipan and other marine engines and his 1/16 scale RC Tiger, which might be the only thing that will move under its own power today.

Members and friends of KMFC,

A reminder that Sunday 15th September is Gordon Burford Day at St Ives: a day when we remember and commemorate the enormous contribution Gordon made to Australian aeromodelling. We'll honour Gordon's memory by filling the air with the sound of Sabre, Glo Chief and Taipan engines, diesel and glow.

Sunday the 15th is also Battle of Britain Day, the day on which a large scale aerial battle took place in the skies above London, involving some 1500 aircraft. This action is seen as the climax of the Battle of Britain: future Luftwaffe attacks becoming from this time, increasingly ineffective.

So, hunt out any model that has a connection with this event, no matter how faint: even a camouflage paint job would fit the bill nicely. There must be a lot of Aeroflyte Spitfires out there?

Burford Day at KMFC
15/09/24

Every year at around this time KMFC honours the memory of Gordon Burford, one of Australia's most prolific engine builders. Gordon put engines into the hands of of a multitude of young aeromodellers, at a pocket money price within reach of most.

Come and join us pay homage to Gordon, a pivotal figure in Australian aeromodelling, by filling the air with the sound of his engines. What could be more fitting?

There will be the three renowned KMFC circles operating, a shady area set aside for buy, sell or swap and a good deal of good humour and bonhomie.

A splendid BBQ lunch will be provided.
