We love the strong, healthy and fit community we have at MN CrossFit š
Short story installment #2 - I hope you enjoy.
Iāve never been the runner in the family, instead I consider myself as the packhorse.
This second short story takes me back to my early days of starting CrossFit.
I remember trotting into my first session with Diesy O'Driscoll as coach, alongside fellow Cross Fitter (and now great friend) Beki Hutchinson.
We had the āboxā to ourselves and Diesy wanted to see just what I was capable of. It was a push press which impressed her and got me hooked.
Whilst I donāt get to the box as regularly as I would like (at the moment!) I still love it just as much whenever I can get there.
My story with CrossFit is far from over, as is the story of mn_crossfit and all the wonderful athletes that enjoy it each and every day.
Letās take a look insideā¦
Walking towards the doors at the old Saddleworth Ag Society Pavilion, itās not evident just whatās behind them.
Once they open - six mornings of the week - youāre transported to an athleteās playground.
There are barbells, kettlebells, rowers, rigs, weight sleds, weights - you name it, itās there, including the (somewhat) dreaded plyometric boxes for box jumps.
But what some people least expect is the incredible community built of all shapes, sizes and ages.
Then thereās the wonderful trainers with Diesy OāDriscoll and Emma Faint leading the way and if it wasnāt for them, the Gilbert Valley area wouldnāt have this facility.
The duo opened the doors to Mid North CrossFit back in 2019 with just three rowers, one rig and a couple sets of rings (among a modest number of weights and other equipment).
Through an opportunity to take a leap into the CrossFit world, they grabbed the bull by the horns (or maybe the kettlebell by the handle) and have grown from strength to strength.
āWe had both been CrossFiting at another gym for a couple of years. When that journey ended for us, we explored a few other fitness options but kept coming back to the feeling that we had so much more we wanted to learn and achieve in the sport (of CrossFit),ā Diesy said.
āInitially we discussed opening up a ābackyardā gym for us and our close friends, but then Em had the idea of setting up in the Saddleworth Show Pavillion. We organised a look through of the building and fell in love instantly with it, it was perfect for what we needed, and the feels of the building felt right,ā she said.
Those āfeelsā have continued to strengthen and itās the community behind MN CrossFit thatās a true testament to what Emma and Diesy have achieved.
āItās not just a CrossFit gym, itās so much more to us and to our members. Everyday people doing amazing things, accomplishing things they never thought they could. Itās a beautiful thing. We learn together, encourage each other and build friendships that extend beyond the gym. CrossFit is not a cult, itās a community,ā Diesy said.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, CrossFit gyms are referred to as a "box" - we won't get started on some of the workout names, either!
Thanks for this facility Diesy and Emma and youāll see me back lifting all those heavy weights again before long.
