We love the strong, healthy and fit community we have at MN CrossFit šŸ’š

Short story installment #2 - I hope you enjoy.

I’ve never been the runner in the family, instead I consider myself as the packhorse.
This second short story takes me back to my early days of starting CrossFit.
I remember trotting into my first session with Diesy O'Driscoll as coach, alongside fellow Cross Fitter (and now great friend) Beki Hutchinson.
We had the ā€œboxā€ to ourselves and Diesy wanted to see just what I was capable of. It was a push press which impressed her and got me hooked.

Whilst I don’t get to the box as regularly as I would like (at the moment!) I still love it just as much whenever I can get there.

My story with CrossFit is far from over, as is the story of mn_crossfit and all the wonderful athletes that enjoy it each and every day.

Let’s take a look inside…

Walking towards the doors at the old Saddleworth Ag Society Pavilion, it’s not evident just what’s behind them.
Once they open - six mornings of the week - you’re transported to an athlete’s playground.
There are barbells, kettlebells, rowers, rigs, weight sleds, weights - you name it, it’s there, including the (somewhat) dreaded plyometric boxes for box jumps.
But what some people least expect is the incredible community built of all shapes, sizes and ages.
Then there’s the wonderful trainers with Diesy O’Driscoll and Emma Faint leading the way and if it wasn’t for them, the Gilbert Valley area wouldn’t have this facility.
The duo opened the doors to Mid North CrossFit back in 2019 with just three rowers, one rig and a couple sets of rings (among a modest number of weights and other equipment).
Through an opportunity to take a leap into the CrossFit world, they grabbed the bull by the horns (or maybe the kettlebell by the handle) and have grown from strength to strength.
ā€œWe had both been CrossFiting at another gym for a couple of years. When that journey ended for us, we explored a few other fitness options but kept coming back to the feeling that we had so much more we wanted to learn and achieve in the sport (of CrossFit),ā€ Diesy said.
ā€œInitially we discussed opening up a ā€˜backyard’ gym for us and our close friends, but then Em had the idea of setting up in the Saddleworth Show Pavillion. We organised a look through of the building and fell in love instantly with it, it was perfect for what we needed, and the feels of the building felt right,ā€ she said.
Those ā€œfeelsā€ have continued to strengthen and it’s the community behind MN CrossFit that’s a true testament to what Emma and Diesy have achieved.
ā€œIt’s not just a CrossFit gym, it’s so much more to us and to our members. Everyday people doing amazing things, accomplishing things they never thought they could. It’s a beautiful thing. We learn together, encourage each other and build friendships that extend beyond the gym. CrossFit is not a cult, it’s a community,ā€ Diesy said.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, CrossFit gyms are referred to as a "box" - we won't get started on some of the workout names, either!

Thanks for this facility Diesy and Emma and you’ll see me back lifting all those heavy weights again before long.

Happy 1st Birthday MN CrossFit!šŸ’š

12 months ago today, we opened our doors to officially welcome you all to MN CrossFit. From what started out as a small group of friends, quickly turned into a family of many more than we could have ever anticipated.

With countless early mornings, mid mornings and afternoon sessions going down, we have enjoyed the journey and the company of our members who inspire us each and every day, while watching our little ā€˜Oak Tree’ grow and prosper.

We could never have imagined that we would have to spend our first birthday with our doors closed and gym quiet.

Despite what the last few months have thrown at us all, we couldn’t be more thankful that you all wanted to come and be part of our dream - and cannot wait to welcome you all back again soon (sooner than we thought!).

They say it’s the little things that make the best memories, and we are definitely looking forward to these moments when you all get to come back and join us again.

From explaining the WOD/movements 300 times a session, the sneaky weight increases after being told no, watching you all roll around on the floor wondering why you gave up 60 mins of your life to feel like you’ve died, the eye rolls for being told to hurry up or to RX the workout because we know you can, the groans when burpees/thrusters/bike/DU’s are mentioned, the cheeky banter, the mini MN’s watching and copying movements - but most of all the smiles, laughter, friendships, bonds and high fives after a great sweat session together.

It’s been an unforgettable year for many reasons, but we are so excited to help you all achieve your goals - and celebrate every time. Our MN family is a community like no other – thank you for sticking by us through this tough situation. Bring on the next chapter!
