Save Our Sons Tournament
The U11s attended the St Johns Lakemba charity tournament on Sunday 28th September and performed exceptionally well against real quality. An invitation only competition which featured the grand finalists from Penrith, Parramatta, Canterbury, Wests and Central Coast meant the team had to lift after a slightly disappointing end to the regular season. And lift they did, with Sean Taylor leading the way in the forwards and great support from Nick, Callum, Antoine and Jacob we were held to a narrow two tries to one loss to the hosts (St Johns). With a couple of boys away on School holidays, Cooper Rennie from the under 10s came along and played like a champion against the bigger and older boys.Second game was a bit one sided, but Matthew Durkin continued to direct the side around and with his astute kicking created all sorts of problems for a fresh Kincumber side (as this was their first game). Logan Zhang has improved through the year and his positional play and kick receptions are excellent. Went down 6 nil but never gave up.Then came Kingsgrove Colts and we warmed to the task with Captain and work horse Michael Geddes splitting the defence to run 70 metres to score early on. Sean Taylor smashed his way through defenders to score a double and the always dangerous Max Downer scored his usual brilliant try. Olly Taylor rounded things off with some skill and determination of his own. Five to nil - a totally dominant win!Last game and the boys came up against a very big Berala Bears. Size told despite the best efforts of Warren βJuniorβ Bourke, Jarrod Hooper and Mark Morcos who battled away to contain them in the middle. It was only a two tries to nil loss, but in such a physical contest, the boys were going down and showed great courage to keep getting up.Tournament Awards Man of Steel β Sean Coaches award β Mark, Jarrod, Cooper, Logan, Jacob (putting in the effort) James Bond award for cool calm and collected - Olly Big Improvers award - Nick, Callum & Antoine Assaulted and battered award to Michael (did anyone see that truck?)
