Sunday's Finals Day delivered arguably the most highly anticipated contest of the year…

Some teams were arguing to be involved…

Others had absolutely no choice whatsoever. 😂

The rules were simple:

👉 Win — congratulations, you've won absolutely nothing.
👉 Lose — congratulations, you're taking home the WOODEN SPOON. 🥄😂

What followed was genuinely one of the most entertaining and fun games of the season.

Bat Flew scratched together a modest total and gave Caught Behind the Sheds every opportunity to chase it down…

But apparently Bat Flew decided there was no bloody way they were taking that spoon home. 🤣

They dug in, defended their total and escaped with their dignity — just! 😂👏

After a cracking Winter Warriors season, we have our champions…

CONGRATULATIONS AFGHAN WARRIORS! 🏏🏆👏

The Afghan boys saved one of their most complete performances for the biggest stage, proving far too strong for the Bay City Maulers in Sunday's Grand Final.

Batting first, the Warriors posted 165, led by an absolutely brutal cameo from Jawid Ahmed. 💥

Jawid clearly decided singles were overrated… 😂

🚀 6 MAMMOTH SIXES
💣 And probably a few balls that still haven't been found!

Even after the onslaught, the Maulers would've walked off believing 165 was chaseable and they had a genuine chance of pulling off the upset.

Then the Afghan Warriors picked up the ball…

…and chose attack. 😳🔥

Their relentless bowling attack simply never allowed the Maulers into the contest. Wickets kept falling, the pressure kept building, and eventually the Bay City Maulers were blown away for just 80 runs.

And who was right in the middle of it again?

JAWID AHMED! ⭐

After destroying them with the bat, he decided he might as well finish the job with the ball:

Now, these two aren't exactly your typical LMS opening batsmen…

💣 Huge power-hitting bombs? Not really.
🔥 All-out aggression? Rarely.
😂 Laughing and heckling each other? Constantly.
🤦‍♂️ Play and misses frustrating the bowlers? Plenty.
🏃 Running absolutely EVERYTHING? That's their speciality!

Conan Dunning & Mitch Larkin have developed one of the more entertaining opening partnerships in LMS Gold Coast.

They'll frustrate you, make you laugh, somehow turn singles into twos, occasionally pull out an absolute cracker of a cricket shot…and just keep finding a way to get runs.

Opening the batting for the Afghan Warriors in their run chase, Mo wasted absolutely no time getting to work.

On Sunday, Fridge put the full power game on display, absolutely launching his way to a brutal:

The Bay City Maulers were threatening to pull off an upset against the Ducksake boys, but Fridge was standing in their way.

Then came the cruel part...

His retirement gave the Maulers a sniff and completely changed the momentum of the game.

Some days the ball just comes out right...

On Sunday, Hamish Canning made it dance. 💥

The much-fancied Afghan Warriors walked to the crease full of confidence, but Hamish had other plans. Producing a Shane Warne-esque spell of leg spin, he had the batters guessing, missing and heading back to the pavilion one after another.

It was a performance that ripped the heart out of one of the competition's strongest batting line-ups and left everyone wondering...

Cricket can be a cruel game.

Sometimes you play one of the innings of the season... and still end up on the losing side.

That's exactly what happened to Eddy Hasimi on Sunday.

With wickets falling around him, Eddy produced a captain's knock, smashing 71 from just 35 balls. It was a fearless display of clean hitting, timing and pure power, launching 7 sixes and keeping the Afghan Warriors in the contest almost single-handedly.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, For Ducks Sake chased down the target in style, reaching 159/2 to claim a six-wicket victory despite Eddy's heroics.

Some innings deserve more than just runs on a scorecard...

This was one of them.
