It is with great sadness that all involved at Rosebud Cricket Club have lost a Life Member of the club. Bryan Waugh passed away peacefully on 29th March with his family by his side.
Bryan played cricket in the 70’s & 80’s but it was his work off the field where he made an enormous contribution to the club. Holding a variety of Office bearer roles, as needs dictated at the time, he devoted enormous time & effort ensuring not only the day to day operation of the club but providing a solid foundation for the future.
Bryan was instrumental in the work required to have social rooms built at the ground for the benefit of both the Cricket & Football clubs. So much so that the social rooms will be named “The Waugh Rooms” at a presentation in the social rooms on Saturday 5th April at halftime in the footy. Feel free to attend the presentation to acknowledge the families involvement at both clubs.
This honour recognises not only Bryan’s contribution to both clubs but also other family members. Michael (Sticks) Waugh is a Life Member of the Football club (300+games, Sponsor & Committeeman) and played cricket over 3 decades, in recent years helping to “fill-in” when sides were short of players despite his ageing body. Bryan’s other son, Paul, also played many years of cricket & football at Rosebud before moving interstate.
Bryan had not been well in recent years but was informed of the naming of the Social rooms several weeks ago. He was most surprised but as usual extremely humble.
Bryan’s wife Cath was a huge support to Bryan & the boys and was regularly seen assisting around the clubs & both enjoying the community involvement and the social side of each club.
Bryan & Cath also have 3 daughters, Tracy, Lisa & Julie who were keen supporters of the clubs & the family activities.
Life Members are recognised for work done at clubs in past years and Bryan, like many Life Members continue contributing well after official recognition. They are the heart & sole of clubs & the community.
In Bryan we have lost one of the best.
Our heartfelt condolences to family & friends.
RIP Brayn
