Rooty Hill Chess Club We welcome players of all levels to play chess on Tuesday nights from 7pm at the West HQ - Rooty Hill You are welcome to play chess without joining the club.

Established in 1973, the Rooty Hill RSL Chess club meets on Tuesday nights at 7.15 pm at the Rooty Hill RSL Club. Visitors and new members are always welcome and can expect a friendly reception. Whatever your playing strength you can always find somebody who enjoys playing a game at your particular level. Our club has various members ranging from young to retirees. Chess sets and the latest digita

l chess clocks are provided by the club. If you decide to become a member the fee is $30 p.a. and $20 p.a. if you have a concession card. Junior players can join the club for free. For an additional fee of $10 the club will pay your membership to the NSW Chess Association if you are also a member of the Rooty Hill RSL Club. During the year the club hosts four annual Classical Tournaments. The Autumn and Winter Swiss, the Rooty Hill FIDE Open and the Club Championship (restricted to club members only). On the nights when there are no Classical tournaments we host a variety of other chess events with various time controls such as Allegro (10 or 15 min) , Rapid (20 min) and of course the popular Lightning tournaments where players only have five minutes each to complete the game. The Rooty Hill Chess Club has officially moved away from West HQ and is now at Wenty Leagues. We will also begin the transition away from the name Rooty Hill in the incoming months.

With the conclusion of the Chess Olympiad in Budapest yesterday, Rooty Hill Chess Club begins its own Club Championships tonight at West HQ. While preliminary first round pairings are out, it's absolutely not too late to still join the tournament from round 2 onwards. Each division (A through to D) has players of similar rating level, so you will be up against similarly skilled players.

Reminder: you must be a member of the Rooty Hill Chess Club to play in the Club Championships.

The 2024 Sydney Chess Championships starts this Saturday at 10am! Late entries are still open until Thursday, the 4th of July. With 187 registered players, this marks the largest tournament in both players and prize pool in NSW since 2020! ($13,250 in total prizes and 15 x Chess.com diamond memberships)

The upcoming Sydney Chess Championships will be broadcast on both chess.com and lichess (with a 15 minute delay), so you can follow the competition wherever you are.

The 2024 Rooty Hill Open Championships starts this Tuesday the 11th of June. Boasting a prize pool of $2,250, we have prizes for overall, rating and juniors!

Registrations close tomorrow Sunday 9th June. Late entries incur a $20 late fee.

The 2024 Rooty Hill June Allegro and 2024 Rooty Hill Open Championships starts on the 4th of June and 11th of June respectively!

The June Allegro is a one night Swiss tournament with 9 rounds and a time control of 10 minutes per player.

The Open Championships is our flagship event each year, boasting a prize pool of $2,250 in multiple divisions. (Overall, rating and junior groups)
