I’m incredibly grateful to have been nominated for the Maree Bunt Customer Service Award – Individual at the 2026 Maranoa Business Awards.

Knowing this nomination came from customers makes it especially meaningful. Roma Saddlery has always been about looking after people, helping where we can and being there for our customers and the community, so this recognition is very special.

A little look at what one week in the workshop has looked like... 🤠

People often ask what I actually get up to all day, so here's a snapshot of just one week as the sole operator behind Roma Saddlery.

✔️ Made nosebags
✔️ Built 2 custom saddles
✔️ Leather saddle bags
✔️ Fibreglassed saddle trees
✔️ Made 16 rope halter and lead sets

And that's on top of serving customers in the shop, answering phone calls and emails, ordering stock, quoting repairs, packing online orders, and everything else that comes with running a small business.

Some days are long, but I genuinely love seeing quality Australian-made gear come together by hand.

Thanks to everyone who continues to support locally made products—it really does make all the difference. 🤎

Roma Saddlery will be closed for the day and will reopen on Monday.

A Little Update From Me 🤎

I thought I'd jump on and give everyone a little update.

Firstly, thank you. Every order, every repair, every kind word and every recommendation means more than you probably realise.

As many of you know, I'm the sole operator at Roma Saddlery. I'm the one handcrafting your saddles, completing repairs, serving customers in the shop, answering the phone and emails, packing orders, ordering stock, updating the website, doing the paperwork and everything in between.

On top of that, I'm also a mum to three young children, so life is certainly busy! Some days it's a balancing act, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

At the moment, I'm incredibly fortunate to have a full workshop with new saddle orders. I'm so grateful that so many people are choosing a handcrafted Roma Saddlery saddle, and every one of those saddles receives the time and attention it deserves.

Unfortunately, this does mean some of the smaller repair jobs are taking longer than usual. I know waiting is frustrating, and I sincerely apologise if you've been waiting on your repair. Please know it hasn't been forgotten—I'm simply working through everything as quickly as I can, one job at a time.

I've always believed in doing the job properly rather than rushing it, and that's a promise I'll continue to stand by.

Thank you for your patience, your understanding and for supporting not only Australian-made craftsmanship but also a small family business. Because of your support, I get to continue doing what I love while keeping the tradition of Roma Saddlery alive for the next generation.

🤎 Your Leather Needs a Skincare Routine Too! 🤎

Looking after your saddle and leather gear properly will add years to its life. 🤎

It’s vitally important to regularly wash and scrub all your leather gear with a quality saddle soap to remove dirt, sweat and grime. We use Oakwood Saddle Soap because it keeps leather supple without being harsh or caustic on the fibres.

Always allow your saddles and leather gear to dry naturally in the shade — never out in the sun. Direct sunlight can burn, dry out and crack your leather over time.

Once your gear is completely dry, apply Oakwood Leather Conditioner. We’ve been using this product for over 15 years and absolutely love it. 🇦🇺

This is why it’s so important your leather is fully dry before conditioning.

One of the biggest things people overlook is removing sweat and dirt properly. The salts and grime left sitting in leather will rapidly deteriorate your gear and shorten its lifespan dramatically.

Think of your leather gear like your own skincare routine — it needs to be cleansed to keep the pores clear, then moisturised to keep it healthy and protected.

An added bonus is Oakwood products are fantastic for more than just saddlery. They work amazingly well on leather and pleather couches, car seats, boots, jackets and everyday leather items around the home as well.

A little care now saves a lot of damage later. 🤠
