I work through the year to be able to run my summer business, as it's my lifestyle choice. I love the sport, I love the beautiful people I meet, the great feels I get when I introduce people to SUP but before anything happens - in all my lessons and instructions, my first priority has always been to respect the water and all marine life within it...
Our Government see the opportunity to cash in on the town treasure of Rockingham - our majestic Seal Island. They will sell it well and make it sound like a you are benefitting the town to support this but they will put permits in place that the small local business like myself will struggle to afford, on top of every other permit and licences we already pay, to do a job we LOVE in the town we RESPECT. This local jewel will become policed and restricted, like they have managed to do with so many other attractions that were once free for the locals to appreciate, claiming it "theirs" to protect. I, as a local for 30 years have respected and protected Seal Island and I know many locals will be dissapointed to hear the plans the Government have. They see revenue when we see a protected little island with our happy little seals sleeping lazily on the shores feeling safe and at home for all these years, having a fun play in the water with a small handful of locals at a time, as they want. Now we, as locals will have to pay to appreciate our island and we will see large boats surrounding the poor little seals and scaring them away. Is this the fate we want to risk for Seal Island? All to put more money into the pockets of some people that reside somewhere north of river far away from OUR TOWN of Rockingham?
Please follow the link and speak adversely to this change and protect our seals and our island and please share the link and get your friends to stand up for our town too.
