NBL1 šŸ’„šŸŒŖ

The CQ University Rockhampton Cyclones are proud to announce their first signing for the upcoming NBL 1 North season, securing Lara McSpadden.

The 6 ft 4 inch power forward/centre comes to the Cyclones after playing the WNBL season with the Townsville Fire and is looking forward to being a focal point of the Cyclones roster in 2021. Lara has had previous stints with the Sydney Flames in the WNBL and has represented her country at the Under 17 and 19 levels.

Head Coach Ben Greany said of Lara’s signing, ā€œ I couldn’t be happier being able to secure Lara for the upcoming season. She brings great mobility and athleticism in that position and runs the floor extremely well and will provide a powerful inside presence for the group in 2021. Lara is WNBL quality and we are looking forward to her leading the front court for the Cyclones this season.ā€

Lara also can’t wait to arrive in Rockhampton and said, ā€œ I couldn’t be happier to have signed with Rockhampton for the upcoming season! Rockhampton have done very well in the past couple of seasons so I can’t wait to add to the group by bringing my skill set to the table, and extend my game further to put ourselves in the best position to win a championship. I know the club is very community driven and involved, so to be able to play in front of enthusiastic home crowds will be amazing.ā€

Lara will arrive in Rockhampton in April in preparation for the 2021 NBL 1 North season.

The Rockhampton Rockets have made their first signing for the 2021 season after signing 6ft 5inch forward Najeal Young. With the season due to commence in May 2021, the Rockets are extremely happy to have signed Young for the 2021 season.

Young spent the 2019 season with the Frankston Blues in the NBL 1 South league, averaging 14 points and 8 rebounds during the season, and previously played in the G League with the Santa Cruz Warriors.

ā€œWe are extremely happy that Najeal has chosen to play in Rockhampton during the 2021 seasonā€, coach Neal Tweedy said. ā€œNajeal has proven that he is a great contributor at the NBL 1 level after having a very successful season with the Frankston Blues in 2019. He will provide the Rockets team with great flexibility in the forward position and we are super excited at what he will bring to the tableā€.

Najeal was extremely pleased with the opportunity to join the Rockets and said, ā€œ I have heard great things about the Rockhampton Rockets program and I am looking forward to getting to work and preparing for the season ahead with my new team mates. I have heard about the wonderful community support this program has and I can’t wait to become a part of that community and I am looking forward to working helping out with the junior programs and schools programs within the region.ā€
