A sensational bowling performance from Ishara Gamlath, delivering a match defining spell for Western Lions.

Ishara finished with outstanding figures of 5 wickets for just 25 runs from 7 overs, including 2 maidens, maintaining exceptional control and pressure throughout with an impressive economy rate of 3.57.

A clinical display of discipline, accuracy and impact at key moments, setting the tone for the team and playing a crucial role in the result.

Western Lions Match Update-This week outstanding individual contributions.

Kanwal Dhillon led from the front with a composed 81 off 68 balls, including 11 boundaries and 2 sixes, striking at 119.11.

Paras Sharma delivered an explosive innings, scoring a rapid 94 from just 32 balls. His aggressive approach kept the momentum high.

Shyam Sunder Reddy Chenna added further strength to the total with a well-constructed 97 from 81 deliveries, featuring 10 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate of 119.75.

With the ball, Kasun Gayan provided excellent control, finishing with figures of 5 wickets for 9 runs, maintaining pressure through disciplined bowling.

A great team effort showcasing strong batting depth and impactful bowling performances.

Western Lions Saturday Wrap – 31 Jan 2026

A strong day across the club with plenty of momentum, highlighted by big totals, disciplined bowling, and a composed chase.

Western Lions 1st XI
A commanding start in the two day match, finishing day one at 7 for 303 off 54 overs. The innings was led by Shyam Sunder Reddy (97), with solid middle order support including Harshad Reddy (56). With the ball, the side struck early and kept it tight, having the opposition 1 for 7 at stumps.

Western Lions 2nd XI
A tough contest in Division 03. The bowling group worked hard to restrict the opposition to 208, led by Sameera Witharana (3 wickets), with strong support from Aruna Thalawiti (2 wickets) and Praveen Sendanayake (2 wickets). In reply, the side was dismissed for 89.

Western Lions 3rd XI
A complete performance and a convincing win. The bowlers set it up by dismissing the opposition for 110, highlighted by Suresh Fernando’s outstanding 6 for 12 off 5.2 overs, supported by Nishantha Alahakoon (2 wickets) and Kasun Gayan (2 wickets). The chase was controlled and efficient, finishing 2 for 113, with Eranda Suresh 46 not out and Sameera Kumara 19 not out guiding the team home.

Western Lions Warriors (Seipolt)
A dominant one day win built on an explosive batting display. After choosing to bat, the Warriors posted 297, with Kanwal Dhillon (112 off 91) and Sanjeev Kumar (83 off 43) leading the way, and a rapid late surge from Paras Sharma (43 off 18). The bowlers then held the chase in check, restricting the opposition to 176, with Paras Sharma (4 wickets) and tight spells from Sunny Rawat and Bala Subrahmanyam Balli helping seal the result.

Proud of the effort across all sides. Let’s carry this momentum into next week.

• Deepak Kumar 46 (38), 7 fours, excellent counterpunch through the middle
• Hardeep Hardeep 25 not out (32), fought it through to the end

• Sunny Rawat 30 (18), late acceleration when it mattered

Saturday – Senior Cricket Action

🏆 1st XI – B Grade (Two-Day)

Result: Loss

The 1st XI fought hard but came up short in a tough two-day contest. The batters showed resilience on a challenging surface:
• Suneel Gajula – 34* anchored a gritty innings
• Harshad Reddy Duddekunta – 19 provided some lower-order resistance
• Karthik Krish – 12* helped see out the final overs

With the ball, the Lions kept plugging away but couldn’t restrict the big total posted by the opposition.

🏏 2nd XI – Division 03 (One Day)

Result: Win

Fantastic all-round performance from our 2nd XI, won through a disciplined bowling attack and then finished the chase with authority.

• Imesha Hendehewa & Niroshan Ravichandran – key strikes

Batting Highlights:
• Ruban Fernando – 73 (35) explosive innings to set up the chase

🏏 3rd XI – Division 11 (One Day)

Result: Loss

A tough batting day saw the Lions posted a low total, but the bowlers continued to compete strongly.

Batting Highlights:
• Eranda Suresh – 20 (37) top-scored with fight and intent
• Ishara Gamlath – 14 (16) and Suresh Fernando – 11 (11) battled through the middle

Bowling Highlights:
• Sam Gunamuni – 1 wicket
• Suresh Fernando – 1 wicket

The Lions kept pressure on the opposition but couldn’t quite make the breakthrough stick.

🏏 Warriors – Seipolt Shield (Two-Day)

Result: Loss on first innings

What a high-run weekend! The Warriors fought back in sensational style after conceding a huge score.

Batting Highlights:
• Kanwal Dhillon – 110 classy century anchoring the chase
• Bala Subrahmanyam Balli – 101 explosive century to swing momentum
• Syed Jamil – 46, Sunny Rawat – 33, Gurwinder Sarwara – 27 strong supporting knocks

Although the opposition posted a massive total first, the Warriors responded with real character and top-order firepower.

🦁 Two Tons. One Massive Statement. 🦁

What a batting masterclass from the Western Lions Warriors in Seipolt Shield. On a big stage and under pressure, two Lions stood tall and turned the match into a run-fest.

🔥 Kanwal Dhillon – 110 (116 balls)
A classy, controlled century built on timing and placement. Dhillon anchored the innings early, rotated the strike beautifully, and punished anything loose to set the platform for a huge total.

💥 Bala Subrahmanyam Balli – 101 (84 balls)
Pure intent. Balli’s hundred came at a rapid pace, mixing power with smart shot selection. Boundaries flowed, the momentum shifted, and the scoreboard kept racing.

Two centurions. Relentless pressure. A performance the Lions will be talking about for a long time. 🦁🔥👏
