The Robinvale Manatunga Sports Club proudly travelled to the VACSAL Basketball Carnival in Geelong over the long weekend, an event that our club, players, families, and supporters look forward to every year.
This year the club was strongly represented with 11 junior teams, ranging from Under 8s through to Under 18s, along with two senior sides โ our Womenโs C Grade and Menโs A Grade teams. Across the three days of competition, every team gave it their all on the court, showing determination, teamwork, and pride while representing Manatunga.
There were some fantastic performances throughout the carnival.
Our Junior Girls Under 10 and Under 12s, Boys Under 16s- Felise , Menโs A Grade, and Womenโs C Grade teams all played strong tournaments but were unfortunately knocked out in the semi-fnals after hard-fought matches.
Our Junior girls U16s team with co - coaches Libby Toavila-Felise and Luka Felise as the team pushed through to grand finals, fought hard but ultimately fell just short of securing the win. The highlight of the weekend came from our Under 18 Boys, Coached by Salutu Felise, with the team line up being; Malakai Wright, Reuben Manu, Jake Kaeser, Logan Smith, Freddy Fevaleaki, Levi Rose, Rueben Ricker, Simione Masila Luitolo and Tyrell Johnson who delivered an incredible performance in a thrilling grand finals.
In a game that kept everyone on the edge of their seats, they secured a glorious 40โ39 victory, winning by just one point against the almighty Fitzroy stars and bringing home a fantastic championship for the club. While the weekend is always busy, full of games, travel, and plenty of movement between courts, what makes it truly special is the cultural connectedness, sense of belonging, and the chance to come together with mob.
Being able to share the experience with family, friends, and community makes the chaos of such a packed long weekend more than worthwhile. Robinvale Manatunga Sports Club would like to extend a huge thank you to all our supporters, families, friends, spectators, coaches, team managers, Victorian Aboriginal Community Services Association Ltd and our sporting club committee for their ongoing support and dedication. Most importantly, we thank our players, who represented the club with pride, commitment, and great sportsmanship across the entire carnival.
Finally, none of this would be possible without the generous support of our sponsors, whose contributions continue to help our club grow and provide opportunities for our athletes.
