The start of the Marathon long distance race at Canberra

3 members of the 4670 SUP CLUB (@ Loz Stephenson, Peter Horton and Johnny Zirilli ) travelled to the nation's capital Canberra to participate in the National Canoe Marathon championships which included SUP for the first time.
It was held at Molongo reach at the Burley Griffin Canoe Club (BGCC) site on the northern side of the river and the club was very accommodating to the SUPpers.
We are very proud of the success and participation of the club members especially Loz who came away with a swag of awards including:
*1st in the mens over 40 technical race
*1st in the men's open category technical race
*2nd in the men's over 40 100m sprints
*2nd in the men's open 100m sprints
*1st in the men's over 40 short course
*1st in the men's over 40 long course and second overall across the line.

Johnny came fourth in the men's over 40 long course, 5th in the 100m sprints and 5th in the men's over 40 tech race and although didn't podium put in great effort.

Peter came 6th in the men's over 60 short course, 6th in the men's over 60 long course and 6th in the men's over 60 100m sprints and also put in a fantastic effort.

We also valued the support shown by members of the other Queensland SUP teams Brisbane SUP Club and Sunshine Coast Sup Club and the teams with the NSW/ACT, WA and Vic paddlers. Although there was great competition, there were no issues with any SUP participants and new friendships and bonds were formed.

The 4670 SUP CLUB INC would like to thank the Burley Griffin Canoe Club for hosting us, and Paddle Queensland and Paddle Australia for their connections and support

It was a wonderful experience paddling in new locations with old and new friends and hope to see more events like this in Queensland!

Another awesome result for Loz Stephenson in the Nationals SUP Sprint category paddling into 2 place (🥈) for both the over 40 men's and open division.
Very close contest with Wejun Po from Singapore who took first place in both races.

The third Riverview run of 2026 was done on Saturday 14 February (such a romantic spot to take your wife and ask her to time and take photos - thanks Sondra Anderson ) in some windy conditions on the Elliott River.

Three members took to the course with clouds threatening to drop some rain and expecting the wind to pick up - the wind did appear especially between the outer red cans but timing of the run with the tides really helped move the boards along.

Well done to Loz Stephenson, Johnny Zirilli and Peter Horton for all hitting PBs on the course today and by a sizeable time margin, more than a minute for all paddlers!!!

Once again a very big thanks to Sondra Anderson for timing and photos today, you did a great job.

Loz Stephenson has now set the fastest time on the course since 2023, taking more than a minute of the previous record!

Another great day for a paddle on the Elliott River for 4670 SUP Club members.

Conditions were a bit warm to start with but a ENE wind cooled temperatures down although it made it a bit more difficult to paddle into the wind to start with.

James Patullo started strongly and led the field for the entire run, practicing with different paddles and also seeing the best racing lines along the course and how close one can skirt the sand banks (and also learning how shallow the sand banks can be).

Greg Jetnikoff and Peter Horton followed through, dodging a fair few tinnies out fishing, with Jacqueline Read posting a great effort of the all rounder board for the short course.
