Junior Match Reports - Sat 30th May

Little League Majors took on Waverley Panthers at home and worked hard coming away with the win!

In training last week we focused on hitting and the results showed, with 7 hits across the team in a much improved batting display.

Perce and Leonard got their first hits of the season with Leonard’s being a powerful drive to left/centre field.

James put on a hitting display going 2-2 with two massive doubles, line drives over left field’s head to go through the cones on a couple of bounces.

Toby put on a dominant pitching display. After struggling to find his rhythm at the start he showed grit and got 9 K’s in 3 innings pitched, giving up no hits.

Ethan and Braden both got hits and looked good around the bases scoring a run each.

Rhys came in to pitch and got a good strike out, also earning a hit himself and getting around the bases with his impressive speed.

The team showed a much improved batting display and we go in to the long weekend having a great mix of fun and development.

Rookie Ball

Ringwood 25 Waverley 18

Back on the winners list. We batted pretty well. We scored 5 runs every inning except for the top of the 3rd where Waverley fielded well to keep us scoreless.

We starred in the field today, keeping them to under 5 runs in the first 2 innings.

The players of the match were Jordan and Leon.

Jordan has been playing consistently the last few games. With the bat, he made it home 5 times (highest in the team and his PB). In the field, he fielded a grounder at 1st base and ran to base getting the player out.

Leon has really improved his running between bases. He made it home 3 times. In the field, he stopped a double out in left field.

Harvey continues to have a consistent season scoring making it home 3 times and stopping 2 doubles at right field.

Ryder too, making it home 4 times. In the field:
- Fielding 3 grounders at 3rd base and then rushing to his base getting 3 outs.
- Then he fielded a grounder at centre field and threw to Jobe at 2nd base getting the out.

Jobe had an off game with the bat, but somehow still made it home 4 times. He dominated in the field though:
- Fielding 3 grounders at 2nd base and then rushing to base getting 3 outs.
- Whilst at 2nd, he took a throw from Ryder at centre fielding getting the out.
- Whilst at 1st base, he took a throw from Jesse in the infield getting the out.

Oliver scored twice. In the field, he fielded a grounder at 2nd base and rushed to base getting the out.

Jesse scored twice and hit a powerful double. In the field he got a tag at short stop and made a throw Jobe at 1st base getting the out.

Sawyer made it home once. In the field, he fielded 2 grounders at 3rd base getting 2 outs.

Daniel scored twice and hit a great double. The double he hit was the best hit for the team all season. It sounded so good of the bat. I swear if it wasn't for the wet ball, it would have been a home run on any ground. I'm excited to see how he develops. In the field, he stopped a double at left field.

It's very clear we have a great defensive team. Just need to improve the offence slightly. At the end of the game, I was very proud to see the boys celebrate their success respectfully and humbly.

Junior Match Reports - 23 May

Rookie ball V VS Waverley Blackcats
20 - 20 Draw

Terrific performance from our boys today. Waverley are a strong team, great fielders and some big hitters, but the boys fought it out for a well earnt draw.

At the bottom of the 5th, we needed 5 runs to tie the match. Under pressure, Jobe hit a powerful double which got 2 players home.

Sawyer, he owned 3rd base today.

As such, they were players of the match.

Jobe lead from the front (as all captains should)
- Batting - 2 runs with 2 doubles.
- Fielding - At second base, he took a great flyball catch. At pitcher, he fielded 2 grounders and made throws to Daniel (third base) and Ryder (first base) getting 2 outs.

Sawyer
- Batting - 3 runs.
- Fielding - Whilst third base, he took throws from Jordan and Harvey getting 2 outs. Then he fielded a line drive and ran to base running out the batter - 3 outs for the team.

Oliver
- Batting - 1 run and got 2 base hits getting others home.
- Fielding - Stopped 2 doubles at centre field.

Harvey
- Batting - 4 runs (equal highest)
- Fielding - Shortstop, he almost took a great fly ball but kept his composure fielding the ball and running to base getting the batter out (second time he's done that this season). Then he got a tag just before the batter got to third base. When he was fielding at third base, he fielded a ground ball and ran to his base getting the batter out.
- He rolled his ankle in the bottom of the 4th but soldiered on to finish the game.

Leon
- Batting - 2 runs. At the bottom of the fifth, he ran bases like his life depended on it which made all the difference at the end.

Jordan
- Batting - 4 runs (equal highest).
- Fielding - Pitcher, he made 2 throws to Sawyer at third base and Jesse at first base, getting 2 outs for the team.

Daniel
- Batting - 3 runs.
- Fielding - At third base, he took a throw from Jobe getting the player out.

Jesse
- Batting - 1 run.
- Fielding - First base, he took a throw from Jordan getting the player out. Then he fielded a ground ball and ran to first base getting the player out.

Ryder
- Batting - He was the only player today who didn't get out. He got 5 base hits getting others home but didn't get home himself (such is baseball).
- Fielding - At first base, he took a throw from Jobe to get the player out.

When you add up all these little things, you can see how much each player contributes to the team.

Little League Majors
Saints 5 – Doncaster 13.

Alex had his first go at pitching this season, starting on the mound. His recent hard work showed with increased velocity and some good endurance.

Toby caught for the first time this season and looked good behind the plate, making some rocket throws to 2nd & 3rd getting one caught stealing.

Joseph led off the batting, drawing two gutsy walks and scoring both times.

Blake got a big hit to right field, getting to 2nd before a couple of errors led to him dashing home scoring a run and a couple of RBI’s.

Rhys pitched well again, throwing consistent strikes but unfortunately we let him down a bit with the defence and couldn’t get the outs.

Braden came in to finish off the pitching and did well, throwing hard and getting the side out for only 1 run including starting off with a great strikeout.

Despite the loss we continue to improve and team morale remains high with a great bunch of kids having fun and playing some good baseball.

While it wasn't the week for our 3's, we had an overall outstanding week across the club 🙌
