It gives us great pleasure to introduce Stanley Hardidge.
Stanley is the eighth person awarded Life Membership by East Ringwood Cricket Club.
Stan is 88 years old. His daughter Kathryn reached out to me because Stan speaks very fondly of his time playing for the Roos.
I recently visited Stan and was very pleased to present him with an ERCC pack including new Life Membership badge, a certificate of appreciation, a baggy red, a club polo and a history booklet from our 100 year celebration.
Needless to say Stan was chuffed to receive his pack.
In his younger days Stan was an excellent tennis player and loved footy. But his Dad felt he was too small to play footy so he ran the boundary and took up cricket.
During our chat, Stan recalled some highlights from his time playing for the East Ringwood Cricket Club.
He told me he was a batter, bowler and occasional wicket keeper.
He played in the RDCA U23s representative team for 5 years, two of which he captained the side.
He told me back in the day, the committee would present a cricket bat to players who made a century. His face lit up when I asked if he ever got a bat. He proudly confirmed he did.
He did tell me his best innings was a century that included 12 sixes and 8 fours!
What a pleasure it was to spend some time with Stan.
