A little holiday project seemed harmless enough. Decided that our mats needed to be scrubbed of 40+ years of blood, sweat, tears and foot scum. But I seriously underestimate how long it would take to clean around 70 mats. Averaging 7 mats per hour. Why did I choose to do this in winter? 🥶

Term 2 done! Thank you to all our members for your continued support. It is a joy to share our love of Sh*to Ryu karate-do with our community and we love watching our students progress and achieve their best.
Over the break, first and foremost, enjoy some rest time. But we encourage students to practise a little bit here and there as well. Our kata videos are linked at the top of our FB page, so if you are practising and you draw a blank, the videos are a great resource.
To the untrained eye kata appears to be a choreographed dance with little meaning or purpose. But as students climb the ranks, the secrets of kata will start to be revealed. Kata is the heart and soul of karate and those who stick around long enough will find out why.

It’s always a pleasure to award students with a new belt and a certificate to celebrate their achievements, their efforts and their commitment. Beyond the physical aspects of learning karate, it is also our goal to help students develop life skills like resilience, perseverance, setting and achieving goals, focus and determination. Karate remains a powerful vehicle for helping people to foster these invaluable qualities.

A HUGE well done to everyone who graded on Monday night. We were extremely pleased with the standard of the Riddells Creek team across the board. For those who were too weary to make it to training tonight, I am delighted to say that we had a 100% success rate! We will be presenting belts and certificates next week, so rest up and we’ll see you on the mats!
