ACTIVE MOBILITY - why?
So you can pull a power pose like this one?
Obviously. Who doesn’t love a good power pose!
But there’s got to be more reasons than that, Coach?
You’d be right.
People think of mobility as how much range of motion you have, period. That’s not mobility. That’s flexibility. Like a seated forward fold hamstring stretch.
Mobility is the range you have active control over.
In the middle splits we are mainly testing abduction of the hip - the ability for me to bring my legs apart laterally, to the sides.
This requires length in the groin muscles (adductor complex) and hamstrings, but it also requires STRENGTH in the glutes, obliques, quads etc to pull the body into the position.
Hence why has got me working the active position here. If you can’t tell by the photo, this freaking hurts! My quads and ass are cramping.
Where do you wanna become more mobile? Let me see if I can help ya problem solve and figure out an exercise or two to try.
