What a fantastic session with Ignite Netball last week! 🔥

Our youngest players had an amazing time developing their netball skills through fun games, movement activities and skill-based drills. From passing and catching to footwork and teamwork, there were plenty of smiles, energy and enthusiasm on display!

A huge thank you to the coaches from Ignite Netball for sharing their knowledge and creating such an engaging session for our future netball stars. ⭐

🏐💚 TIP TUESDAY 💚🏐

How to Take a Correct Throw-In

Throw-ins happen dozens of times during a game, so knowing how to take one correctly can help your team keep possession and avoid unnecessary penalties!

Here are the key things to remember:
✅ Stand completely off the court
✅ Have at least one foot within 15cm of where the ball went out
✅ Don't step on the line (the line is part of the court!)
✅ Release the ball within 3 seconds
✅ Stay onside for your position
✅ Don't throw the ball over a third line untouched

💡 Beginner Tip: You don't need to wait for everyone to return to the court before taking a throw-in. If you have the ball and you're in the correct position, play can restart straight away!

Understanding the little rules helps build confidence, improves game flow and makes life easier for our umpires too. 🏐👏

Did you know all of these throw-in rules?!

🌟🏐 BELATED ROUND 5 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK 🏐🌟

Better late than never! 💚🤍

We realised we missed celebrating our amazing Round 5 Players of the Week, and we couldn't let their efforts go unrecognised. These players stood out for their determination, teamwork, sportsmanship and commitment to their team, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements.

Each week, our coaches have the difficult task of selecting players who have demonstrated great effort, improvement, encouragement of teammates and a positive attitude on and off the court.

👏 Congratulations to all of our Round 5 Players of the Week! Your hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed.

A special thank you to our wonderful sponsors for helping us recognise and reward our players:
🥤 The Terrace Diner and Play for providing milkshake vouchers for our Players of the Week.
🍕 Domino's Medowie for supporting our Shooting Stars with pizza vouchers.

Thank you to our coaches, managers, volunteers and families for continuing to support and encourage our players each week.

💚 We are so proud of every player who pulls on the green and white and gives their best for their team. Keep up the fantastic work! 💚

✨ Highlights from Round 6:
🏃‍♀️ Strong drives and smart movement through the court

A huge thank you to our coaches, managers, umpires, volunteers and families for your ongoing support each week. Your dedication helps make our club such a positive place for all players to learn and develop.

🌭 The day was finished off with a Bunnings BBQ stop, where it was great to see both St Brigid’s Netball Club Raymond Terrace and Karuah Pearls Netball players there to support our teammate Chloe. The generosity and community spirit are what makes our netball family so special. 💚

Keep an eye out for Blue Bands across the courts from this weekend.

We are proud to stand with Port Stephens Netball Association and ensure everyone gets to participate and enjoy netball together 💚

💙🏐 THE BLUE BAND INITIATIVE STARTS THIS WEEK 🏐💙

Port Stephens Netball Association is proud to launch the Blue Band Initiative as part of our commitment to creating a more inclusive and accessible netball community.

The Blue Band Initiative supports players who may require adjustments to participate confidently and successfully in our competitions. Players participating under inclusive netball rules will wear a blue wristband, helping umpires identify when approved adjustments may be applied during play.

Examples of adjustments may include:
💙 Allowing players to hold the ball for up to 6 seconds.
💙 Permitting additional foot movement when receiving or passing the ball.
💙 Adjusting court positioning or pace to suit individual needs.
💙 Additional guidance from umpires where appropriate.

The Blue Band Initiative is built on four key principles:

🤝 Inclusivity – Everyone is welcome.
🛡️ Safety – Supporting participation in a safe environment.
⚖️ Fairness – Equitable opportunities for all players.
💙 Respect – Understanding and supporting individual needs.

At Port Stephens Netball, we believe netball is a game for everyone. The Blue Band Initiative helps ensure all players have the opportunity to participate, belong and enjoy our sport.

Together, we are building a stronger, more inclusive netball community.

🟢⚪ WHISTLE WISDOM WEDNESDAY ⚪🟢

📍 Where should an umpire stand?

Great umpiring isn't about being close to the ball – it's about being in the best position to see play clearly and consistently.

This week's Whistle Wisdom Wednesday focuses on where to stand in each third of the court to give yourself the best view of:

🏐 Contact
🏐 Obstruction
🏐 Footwork
🏐 Defending distance
🏐 Shooting attempts

Remember:

✅ Keep play in front of you
✅ Stay mobile
✅ Angle towards the goal circle
✅ Position yourself to see space between players

The best umpires aren't chasing the ball – they're anticipating where the next decision will be made.

💚 Good umpires don't just see the game – they see everything!
