Well unfortunately the weekend saw the end of the Dutchy season for season 25/26 after going down to the Wyee Wombats in the preliminary final. Great effort boys and congratulations for a record breaking season for the Dutchy. We have seen records tumble everywhere. Notably we seen 2x 5 wicket hauls and a hatrick. There have been some exceptional individual performances to get some good wins along the way and played in the true Dutchy spirit.

Great effort boys. Well played.

Round 1: v Fine legs

Round 1 seen us take on the Finelegs. Nice warm day at Smith Park. With a considerable NW wind blowing keeping things a bit warm.

The year started where we left off last year and loss the toss. Finelegs decided to bat first. There goes our appointment at the Sunnyside by 3pm.

Gunna be a long afternoon. Bit short on bowling stocks and it’s hot.

So here goes. Noodles takes the ball with the wind.

Well you wouldn’t believe the start. All the hard hours spent on fielding practice yielded results with a run out off the first ball. Never a single on the arm of Baker at backward of square. Blank fire Tannock whipped the bails off 1/0. We’re in this was the call. Ffffttttt C grade really!!!!

Unfortunately that brings their very own Steve Smith to crease. This bloke super fit and a solid technique. We’re in trouble.

Both Noodles and the chunky monkey Pud toiled away. Noodles bowling out his 7 straight as he doesn’t have the ability to come back on. Very impressive figures of 0-4 off seven overs. What a spell of bowling.

Unfortunately for us they quickly moved to 2/70.

Some highlights of the fielding effort we managed a further 2 run outs. Absolutely un heard of.

Obviously all the Blueies Shannon the fencer popped in the off season has had serious effects on his eyesight. Had an absolute dolly of a chance of caught and blowed but completely missed it. Well not just. There ended up being a post code between the fencer and the ball. Well played. Maybe turn up to training. Can’t even hit him up for 2 bucks for the drop catch he was that far away from it.

Poor old Jon out on the boundary copped a flogging all day. So did some cars parked on the side street copped an absolute peppering. Good advertisement for the strength of the side window of the 94 Hyundai Elantra. Got absolutely drilled and didn’t smash.

Drinks couldn’t come quick enough. We’ve hanging in there holding them 2/80 off 20 overs.

Blankfire Tannock retired the gloves handing them to a new signing Bobble head Lachie. Blankfire keen for a bowl. The fencer got hooked managing 0/49 off 5 overs. Blankfire smashing out a quick 4 overs taking 2-15. The little chunky monkey Pud finished with figures of 2-25 off 7 overs with Summers taking 1-50 off his 7 and Elliot chiming in with 1-32 off 5 overs.

So a long day in the field. We’re chasing 182 for victory.

Previous seasons would indicate this is way above our batting capability. But here goes.

The new bloke Jedd’s mate Muz and Pud the chunky monkey take the opening honours for the season. Wasn’t too long before we were in trouble at 1-4. Jedd’s mate didn’t trouble the scorers with a duck. Welcome to the Dutchy. There was a mad scramble for the hat. But it couldn’t be located. The chunky monkey took it to the reasonable bowling attack making a fine 24 before being caught.

Bobble head made his way to the crease on debut for the Dutchy. Nervous as. He scratched around for a fine 6 before being caught. Sunny side appointment is back in contention. We’ve quickly slumped to 5-44. Baker and Nelson steadied the ship with Jon making a handy 14 cracking some nice edges for boundaries. Obviously the step up to C grade hasn’t fazed Jon one bit. Fftttttt here hold my beer as he would say.

Not much went well from here. Summers managed a duck. The hat is doing the rounds early. Only if we could find it.

Muzza’s mate Jed put in a valiant effort making a fine 14. That was even after copping one in the helmet. He staggered around like he took a right hook from Iron Mike. But the big fella shook it off and continued. No HIA in this grade.

Baker out for 33 with Elliot not out 30 and the fencer not out on 4. Unfortunately we ran out of overs making it a long day of cricket. Our total was 149. Not a bad run chase by our standard against a quality bowling attack.

Next week should be interesting. We come up against the Race Course Hotel. They made 5/216 off 35 overs only to be chased down by the Googs 8/218 of 18 overs. Looks like they can bat but can’t bowl. The fencer is excited. His figures against this team are 1/106 off 9 overs. Warm up Shannon. You’re opening the bowling.
