❄️HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED IN WINTER ❄️

If you think working out consistently is hard, try working out in winter! The cold weather can make anyone want to press the snooze button, pull the covers up and stay in the warmth for as long as possible.

But, we know that movement in life is important so here are some of our tips to help keep you on track throughout the cooler months of the year.

1) Dress warm - if exercising outdoors, be sure to wear or pack the right gear. Beanies, gloves, thicker socks, pull overs etc will make battling the elements a little easier.

2) Remember safety - as the days get shorter, you might be working out in the dark. Try taking a torch with you on your walk, using a light on your bike or wearing a headlamp for your run.

3) Don't forget your warm up - it can be something you might usually "skip" but in the cooler months, a warm up is essential to prevent injury but also help get blood flowing and warming up your body to brace the elements.

4) Change your mental approach - gratitude and gratefulness. As easy as it is to roll over or "do it tomorrow", remember how fortunate you are to be able to move, breath and exercise. Look at your winter workout as a chance to get some vitamin D, fresh air, boost your immune system and overall feel great!

5) Try something new - if you usually workout outdoors and are still not keen on the cold, try a new exercise or activity to stay active. Join a bootcamp, take up indoor swimming in a heated pool, test your endurance in a spin class, or give bikram yoga or pilates a go. Change up your activity to keep you warm and healthy.

6) Embrace the cold - use the cold to motivate you. Sometimes we get caught up in our comfort zone and fear doing anything different. Use the cold weather to motivate yourself in that it takes a lot of discipline and will power to get outdoors when it is unsettling cold.

🍫 FOOD (NUTRITION) LABELS 🍭

One of the most noteworthy comments we receive when helping our clients with nutrition is HOW TO READ FOOD LABELS!

Knowing exactly what is in the packaged and/or processed foods you are eating is incredibly important.

This knowledge helps support:

- increased understanding of what you are putting into your body
- making improved food choices for a healthier lifestyle
- assisting in managing weight loss and dietary goals
- managing performance goals
- managing intake of specific macro and micro nutrients to support dietary deficiencies, food sensitivities, allergies etc.

We thought we would share one of the simplest guides that you can reference to help breakdown those confusing food labels.

You can find more information on the breakdown of each macro and micro nutrient below:

https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/how-to-read-food-labels

Reference this when you are at the store next and you might be surprised at exactly what it is you are really eating

❓ DID YOU KNOW? ❓

NO FAT OR REDUCED FAT OPTIONS are not always healthier options.

Don't fall victim into thinking that just because you are buying something with "no/reduced fat" plastered on the label, that it is better for you.
You would be surprised how misleading this can be.

More often than not, products which are labelled as "no/reduced fat" are riddled with sugars, salts, syrups and nasty additives and flavourings.

Why?

By adding sugars, salts and all the other artificial additives, you are supplementing the flavour that is lost when the fat is removed from the product.

Take a look at some of your favourites on the shelves next time you are at the store.

Compare full fat to low/no fat options and see what the labels tell you.
You might be surprised at the results of a comparison, and realising that not all "no/reduce fat" products are actually healthier options.

Don't forget - fats are not the enemy!

πŸ₯— NUTRITION ADVICE πŸ₯—

If you have found it difficult and overwhelming navigating the world of healthy eating, we completely understand.

There is an abundance of information available on nutrition which is sadly swallowed by trendy diets, fads, juice cleanses and detoxes, which makes it hard to differentiate between the good, the bad and the ugly of nutrition.

If you are in need of some guidance, support, or are wanting to get a better understanding of how to make healthier nutritional and lifestyle choices, we are here to help.

πŸ’₯ NON-SCALE VICTORIES πŸ’₯

The number on the scale is merely one of many strategies used to measure weight loss progress, but it should never be the only measure of progress.

We often get caught up believing that this single number is the source of truth for weight loss.
We feel great if we see a drop but disheartened if there is an increase or no change at all.
So much importance is displaced on this simple, physical item (a weight scale!) without remembering that there are a number of factors which may prevent seeing a drop in number... and that's a whole other discussion point.

We focus so much on the scale and forget to notice or acknowledge the vast array of non-scale victories that come with making healthier lifestyle changes.

This post is dedicated to getting into your old wedding dress, buying a new pair of smaller jeans, sleeping solid and soundly, and feeling more positive and energetic than you have in years!

This is your reminder to look beyond the scale!

Let us help you! πŸ€πŸ–€
