βοΈHOW TO STAY MOTIVATED IN WINTER βοΈ
If you think working out consistently is hard, try working out in winter! The cold weather can make anyone want to press the snooze button, pull the covers up and stay in the warmth for as long as possible.
But, we know that movement in life is important so here are some of our tips to help keep you on track throughout the cooler months of the year.
1) Dress warm - if exercising outdoors, be sure to wear or pack the right gear. Beanies, gloves, thicker socks, pull overs etc will make battling the elements a little easier.
2) Remember safety - as the days get shorter, you might be working out in the dark. Try taking a torch with you on your walk, using a light on your bike or wearing a headlamp for your run.
3) Don't forget your warm up - it can be something you might usually "skip" but in the cooler months, a warm up is essential to prevent injury but also help get blood flowing and warming up your body to brace the elements.
4) Change your mental approach - gratitude and gratefulness. As easy as it is to roll over or "do it tomorrow", remember how fortunate you are to be able to move, breath and exercise. Look at your winter workout as a chance to get some vitamin D, fresh air, boost your immune system and overall feel great!
5) Try something new - if you usually workout outdoors and are still not keen on the cold, try a new exercise or activity to stay active. Join a bootcamp, take up indoor swimming in a heated pool, test your endurance in a spin class, or give bikram yoga or pilates a go. Change up your activity to keep you warm and healthy.
6) Embrace the cold - use the cold to motivate you. Sometimes we get caught up in our comfort zone and fear doing anything different. Use the cold weather to motivate yourself in that it takes a lot of discipline and will power to get outdoors when it is unsettling cold.
