I thought I would show a few paintings this morning as a departure from Surfboards…
1: I had been saying to myself for years that I was going to start painting again would’ve been 2004 or so… I finally got round to buying a canvas and some acrylic paints. I used a photo from my trips to Shikoku Island in Japan as a reference.
It was a typhoon swell with strong winds. Adam and I ended up driving to an area called Hiwasa.
The waves are bigger than they appear in the painting. It was strong that day and there was some good barrel action down through the inside.
I was pretty happy with the painting, I think it captures the feeling of the day .

2: I like to carry a small art kit when I travel. This small painting , about 30 x 40 cm was done on site at Balian.

4: A studio painting, Oil on canvas. I had an idea to combine a Wave with a surfboard design , the board that would compliment that wave. Unfortunately Instagram cropped off the top of the image.

4: I spent a lot of time in West Java when I was doing a lot of Japan shaping trips.
The sketch is of Indies.

5: Oil on canvas. A painting of one of my best mates Terry, riding a flex tale which I made him at Arragan Bay in Sri Lanka.

6: Another page from my Travel sketchbook.
This from a really nice place to stay up at Ahmed in East Bali .

7: This black-and-white guache painting was done in a hurry outdoors as the oncoming storm approached.

8: this final image is a studio painting. Acrylic canvas about 2’ x 3’. It was from a photo I took while on a surf trip up in the Telos Islands. We had great waves that day and it brings back good memories for me.
