So exciting for the town
Improving the Queenstown skate park with a NEW pump track!
We've recently been working with the Queenstown Lions Club to revitalise the skate park and are looking to include a pump track in the build (behind the basketball gym, between the river and skate park).
We're almost ready to get started, but first we need your help!
The West Coast Council really likes the idea, they just want to confirm that local riders and the wider community are also on board before we're given the green light.
Our aim is to build a pump track for riders of all sizes and abilities, from locally sourced materials, with the help of locals. We want to build it out of gravel first, ride it and see what works - then tweak it so it meets the needs of everyone using it.
After that we could seek funding to get it asphalted and have it be a more permanent fixture. This first stage is very low impact and will let us see just how much use a pump track would get in Queenstown.
We're very fortunate to already have the local earth moving and quarrying businesses supporting us for this project. From all the requests, we're pretty confident that local kids, adults and visitors will love it too!
So please let us know what you think in the comments below, send us an email or come to a site meeting on Sunday 30/4/23 from 12-1pm. Even just a simple 'Yes' in the comments would be really helpful in getting this underway.
P.S. the concept shown here is not necessarily the final design, but it should give you a good idea of what we're after and the space we have to work with. This is a volunteer project.
