Shihan Graham and sempai Pam from the Geelong Dojo visited us and trained alongside us on the mats. Training together with members from other dojos is a truly valuable experience. Sharing the same training space and working up a sweat together naturally brings people closer and strengthens mutual respect and connection. We are grateful for these opportunities to connect through karate.

Today, our Junior Grading (morning) and Senior Grading (afternoon) were held.

A grading is not determined solely by performance on the day. Throughout regular training, students are continuously observed by the Shihan, and only those who have demonstrated the required standard are invited to take on the challenge of grading.

There were probably days when you did not feel like training and only came to the dojo because your mum or dad encouraged you to come. Take a moment to appreciate and thank those who have supported you along the way.

Congratulations to everyone who graded today. For those who were not grading this time, or for those striving for even greater goals, let us continue training together and taking the next steps on our karate journey.

We were also honoured to have Shihan Graham and Sensei Pam from the Geelong Dojo attend and observe the Senior Grading, making the day even more memorable.

🔱 FAMILY SPOTLIGHT 🔱 – KEHRES FAMILY –

The Kehres family (Brian & Anne-Marie) has been part of our dojo community since 2015.
Both parents share a passion for bike riding, and they come from a sporting family that includes world title holders.
Anne-Marie’s mother, Norma, is deeply passionate about education and has played an important role in supporting and guiding the grandsons with a balance of discipline and care.

Currently, their sons
Bryn (1st Kyu/14yo/8 years training)
Andrys (6th Kyu/10yo/4 years training)
are both training karate hard and continuing to grow in their Kyokushin journey.

❓ Why did you start karate?
🅰️ Because my parents enrolled me, but now I do it for fighting, fitness, discipline, and because I enjoy it.

❓ What do you enjoy most about training?
🅰️ Pushing beyond my limits and comfort zone.

❓ How has karate helped you grow?
🅰️ It’s been good for both my physical and mental strength. It’s helped me form great friendships and have good role models and mentors.

❓ What are your future goals?
🅰️ To compete at the World Championships. I also want a career in motorsports. My advice is: don’t give up, show up, and be consistent.

2026 Victorian kyokushin/shinkyokushin Knockdown championship

In addition to their regular Tuesday and Thursday training, they also trained on Saturday mornings in the Champion Class, pushing through intense sessions under Sempai Ricky Chang.
There were times when training felt overwhelming and exhausting, but they encouraged and supported each other through it all.
The junior division matches were only 1 minute and 30 seconds for a single match for this tournament, Victorian kyokushin Championship 2026. However, the many hours of training and effort leading up to those 90 seconds are never wasted.

Stay humble in victory, and stay strong in defeat.
What matters most is continuing to build yourself through consistent effort.
At our dojo, there are teammates who support and push each other forward. Whether you choose to challenge yourself and pursue your goals is up to you.

For the past several months, Saturday Champion Class, led by Sempai Ricky Chang, has been pushing hard through intense training sessions in preparation for tournaments.

This Sunday, June 17th, fighters will represent Whitsunday Kyokushin Proserpine Dojo at the "Victorian Open Kyokushin/ShinKyokushin Knockdown Championships 2026".

Even the students who are not competing this time have trained hard alongside the fighters, sweating together and supporting one another every step of the way. That spirit of teamwork and perseverance is what makes our dojo strong.

Today we celebrate the women who do so much behind the scenes to help their children grow, succeed, and thrive in karate.
Thank you for driving them to and from training sessions. Thank you for waiting patiently during classes, helping tie belts, packing uniforms and water bottles, and always making sure your children arrive prepared and ready to give their best.
Thank you for the encouragement you give after a tough training session, the reassurance you offer when confidence is low, and the pride you show in every small achievement along the way.
And especially, thank you for everything you do during tournaments. From the early starts and long competition days to sitting in crowded venues for hours, cheering loudly from the sidelines, calming nervous emotions, fixing uniforms, preparing meals and snacks, organizing schedules, and celebrating victories while also comforting disappointments — your support never goes unnoticed. You are there through every belt grading, every challenge, every setback, and every success. Your love, sacrifice, patience, and dedication help shape not only strong karate students, but strong and confident young people.

Behind every determined martial artist is a mother who has supported them every step of the journey.
