Hi its me again with a up date on knots and braid.
Braid under tension is unable to take any contact with obstacle such as the side of the boat or structure on the bottom it has no stretch capability and snaps quite eagerly.
This is manly because the braid doesn’t have the ability to stretch so it gos straight to its braking point and if it exceeds this number or rubs against obstacles it will snap.
Hence anglers use shock leaders to give stretch and protect the braid giving it a chance in these concisions.
This where good knots come into the game.
The best knot to use is the Unie Knot or a Doctors Loop to the leader either from the swivel.
Having a quick release swivel with a clip is always a good idear.
I personally fishing for whiting use a mono rig with a loop to a swivel with a clip and a unie knot for the braid end of the rig.
This mono act as a shock leader for the braid and works quite well I use 30 lbs rig and 30 lbs braid its over kill but so are the snapper and flat head that sometimes come my way.
U can use lighter braid but I wonder why.
I catch fish to eat and it’s sporting just to catch them so a lighter braid don’t come into it when I am fishing in deeper waters.
There are multilabel knots to attach braid to the main line and some are quite specised making them harder to tie.
Making a loop and rapping the braid 10 times up the loop in a even fashion and then wrapping the braid down the r***d braid going back to the loop u have made and slipping the braid through the loop and pulling it all together is the simplest knot I know to join braid to the shock leader.
Go to utube its easier to see the knots their and practice makes perfect.
Braid has no stretch so the bites are more direct and intern when you strike the braid being more direct it has the ability to pull the bait out of the fishes mouth you get this with squid fish even more as you strike it take the tentacles with the jag and not the squid.
Blood knots Unie Knots to swivel work well and will not pull through due to the weaving of the braid in manufacture it’s a rougher finish and abrasive to any think it rubs against.
In short knots using braid are up to you but the fancy new age knots for braid are just that the old one work just as well and in some cases better as you don’t have to learn new exotics to tie them.
