As trainers, our responsibility goes far beyond winning or losing. Our priority is to prepare our athletes properly and ensure they enter and leave the ring safely.
Once the bell rings, they stand alone, and unfortunately, we can’t fight for them.
Tony Williams showed incredible courage in his boxing debut but was caught in the third round and unfortunately suffered a fractured jaw. Although he wanted to continue, I made the decision to stop the fight on the stool. His health will always come first.
He will undergo surgery next week. I’m extremely proud of the work he put into camp while overcoming several personal challenges.
Tony is no stranger to adversity. He will recover, learn from this experience and return stronger, wiser and more motivated.
