Hi Insta 👋 A bit more of a personal post from me today… It’s January 4th, so I’m a bit late to the NY posting party but I’ve been in a wonderful holiday bubble that I’m only just coming out of 🫧

This year, I’m definitely not going into 2024 with a New Year, New Me attitude! 2023 for me was great, if I had to choose one word for how I feel right now overall it would be content - and I intend to keep that going in to this year!

2023 was a year of new beginnings (new country, new job, new home!), a year of building my relationships new and old (I feel just as close to my loved ones even on the other side of the world), the year I continued to work on myself mentally and physically (started therapy, pushed my training up a gear, levelling up my knowledge) and had many travel adventures!

That’s not to say there weren’t some things on my 2023 vision board that i haven’t quite managed - so there’s definitely things I want to work on and improve on this year.

I’m so excited to step in to 2024 and ready for the next chapter 👏 the vision board is made, the affirmations were written (a fun girls night activity) and plans are in motion ✨ let’s do this 👏

BUILD UPDATE 🌟

So I’m heading into week 12 (a deload week!) with another 4 weeks until my cut (right after Christmas!)

I can’t say that this last training block has felt the greatest (with the move and trips away etc) but I’m still progressing in everything - even if it’s not in a tidy linear fashion!

When the scales hit 57kg I was honestly surprised because I’m feeling really good in myself! Yes I can tell theirs a bit of extra fluff in certain areas but I feel good 🥰

I was also really surprised when I found my other pic from earlier in the year at 57kg!!

What’s happened? BODY RECOMP! This wasn’t from A- B just eating at maintenance- I’ve done this through a mini cut phase and a build (thanks to my coach and team helping me do something I knew I couldn’t do on my own!)

Excited to see the dexa scan results in a couple weeks!

I mean first of all, I’d usually advise NOT to weigh yourself after eating and drinking if you know the scale is going to impact you - because it’s most likely going to be up for MANY reasons that have nothing to do with body fat (higher carbs intake, more food volume, more sodium, alcohol, later meal timings etc etc)

I went out for dinner twice this weekend, so it was no surprise the scale was up from Friday to Monday by 1kg! Previously this would have cause me to seriously restrict and over exercise (which the inevitably lead me to a bit of a binge or overeating and keep the vicious cycle going)

Remember, it’s what you do CONSISTENTLY that’s going to make a different - if you are in a deficit the majority of the time, a meal out isn’t going to ruin your whole progress, but you restricting your calories potentially could!

The chances are you probably either ate to maintenance or even a bit of your surplus, but it won’t cancel out your weekly deficit.

So just keep doing what you were doing 🙌🏼

Are you always ‘eating clean’ for a few weeks and then giving up a) because you’re miserable? Or b) because you aren’t seeing a different?

If you void your diet of all joy, it’s no wonder you can’t stick to it - and eating ‘clean’ doesn’t mean you’re in a calorie deficit.

You CAN have chocolate everyday and be in a calorie deficit (you also can have avocado and nuts everyday and end up in a surplus!)

Which is why tracking can be such a useful tool to teach you how to include both food that’s good for your body AND good for your soul.

And you don’t have to track forever, it just gives you an idea of how to eat for your goals (or even maintenance) and guides your intuitive eating later down the line.

Here’s what to do if you overate this Easter…

Carry on as normal!

I know their might be feelings of guilt and an impulse to heavily restrict following a few days of overeating, but this is more likely to exacerbate things and encourage a further binge/ restrict cycle.

So, the best thing to do? Pick up where you left off. Remember that you are the average of your actions so if the majority of the time you are eating and moving in align to your current goals/ values, a few days of overeating and perhaps moving less won’t harm you.

If you are struggling with feelings of guilt, try to reframe your thoughts.

What did you gain emotionally this weekend?

I definitely overate and drank more this weekend BUT, it was an incredibly rare and special weekend, where I got to spend it with my extended family (who I have always lived far from) and my sister and niece ❤️ it felt like Christmas! These are moments I will cherish and are really special to me.

Also remind yourself - how many times have you spent a few days over eating and felt guilt, for nothing to have changed at all? Try and move your energy away from those feelings to those of understanding and self compassion.

Don’t know where to start, so end up not starting at all?

I hear you 🙌🏼 navigating health and fitness can be super overwhelming- there’s so much info out there (especially on Instagram) that sometimes knowing where to start or what route to take can just put you off entirely.

Before you worry about specific training splits, nutrient timing, fancy IG exercises or supplements - nail the basics! (The basics are basic for a reason!)

Nail these and just watch how your mental and physical health improves tenfold!

And ain’t that the truth 🤷🏼‍♀️

Just like scales don’t show you your body composition, you can’t capture a transformation of mindset in a progress pic.

In the above photos, to most people looking, there’s not a drastic difference in how I look (while of course, to me at the time there was!). But what you don’t see is how I think and feel is completely different, as well as an improvement in my health markers.

And as a coach, his is what I pride myself on most, and what drives me to do what I do! Working with my ladies on so much more than just macros and training - but transforming their mindset and relationship to both food and themselves, and basically improving their quality of life (and life enjoyment!) ten fold!

Getting check ins from my team, telling me the wins and the challenges they are overcoming and actually recognising in them selves how their mindset has shifted is amazing 🤩 and like muscle building, it’s not an overnight transition BUT it is SO so worth the work ❤️

Mindset is a huge part of how we feel about our body, and often simply just changing how it looks, won’t change how you feel about it.
