SUPERNATS IS COMING BACK TO TASMANIA AND THAT IS GREAT NEWS! 🔥🏁

The three day Street Machine Supernats horsepower party is returning to Buckby Motors Symmons Plains Raceway from 13–15 November 2026.

No-prep racing, burnouts, superskids, cruising, show and shine, family sessions and plenty of horsepower.

This is fantastic news for every Tasmanian who loves cars, smoke, racing and motorsport.

It also proves the point we have been making:

Tasmania still has a massive appetite for this kind of event.

One or two visiting events each year are great, but they do not replace the need for permanent, locally controlled and locally promoted motorsport infrastructure capable of running affordable events throughout the year.

Powranna already has an established drag strip, a massive competition burnout pad, staging lanes, spectator areas, pits, access roads and room for multiple types of motorsport.

With motorsport focused ownership, proper management, accreditation, insurance and event planning, Powranna could host no-prep racing, burnouts, roll racing, superskids, cruising, car shows and community events regularly throughout the year.

The return of Supernats shows that the competitors are still here.

The spectators are still here.

The businesses are still here.

And the demand is absolutely still here.

Previous events at Powranna also showed what locally promoted motorsport can do for Tasmanian small businesses.

Local food and coffee vendors were welcomed into the venue without being charged for their space because the goal was to support them, not take money from them. One local coffee operator was so busy they had to leave and restock twice during the event.

That is money circulating through local businesses, local suppliers, volunteers, accommodation, fuel stations, food outlets and the wider regional community.

We genuinely welcome Supernats back and hope Tasmania gets behind it.

And we also hope people look at this announcement and ask a bigger question:

If Tasmania can support a three-day horsepower event at Symmons Plains, why can’t Powranna become a permanent home for affordable, locally promoted motorsport throughout the year?

The venue is there.

The history is there.

The community is there.

Supernats returning proves the demand is there.

Now let’s keep building the case to bring Powranna back. 💙🏁

Thanks everyone for the comments, shares and input today.

I just want to clear one thing up before I call it a night.

A few people are saying Powranna is dead, it’s just a paddock, or it needs too much work. Fair enough if that’s what people think, but a lot of people also haven’t seen what was actually done out there before it closed.

The staging area was done. Spectator area was done. Fencing was done. Power was run to the middle of the track. New lights were put in over the track and around the building. New sign over the track. Building painted. Stairs and landing repaired. Fresh GPS line down the middle. Starting lines done. 1/8th mile lines there. Track patches repaired. Burnout pad cracks repaired and concrete patches done. Car park extended. Gravel pathways done. Spectator hill entrance repaired. There are dams on site, established viewing areas, an established pad, and an established drag strip.

No one is saying it could reopen tomorrow as a full professional drag racing venue. Obviously it would still need proper ownership, toilets, insurance, safety planning, officials, volunteers, and management.

But it's not just some dead paddock. There is a very good base sitting there for grassroots events — burnouts, roll racing, junior dragsters, lawnmower racing, car shows, community days, and a safe outlet for people.

I also love that people keep pointing out Symmons Plains, and fair enough, Symmons is important. But from what I understand, they don’t own enough land there to just build whatever Tasmania’s motorsport community needs. That’s not having a shot at Symmons, it’s just something for everyone to think about.

Maybe the answer is collaboration. Maybe it’s investors. Maybe it’s a motorsport-focused owner. Maybe it’s supportive businesses getting behind a proper proposal.

But look at these photos and honestly tell me you couldn’t run a grassroots event on that with the right people, planning, toilets, safety, insurance, and volunteers.

That’s the whole point of the discussion.

We’ll leave the comments open for a couple of weeks so the community can have their say. This is also open for possible future sponsors, supportive businesses, future investors, or future owners who might see the value in the place.

At the end of the day, motorsport is more than cars, drag racing and skids. It’s mates, families, volunteers, memories, and people needing an outlet.

Powranna Dragway has been a major part of Tasmania’s motorsport history — drag racing, burnouts, junior dragsters, lawnmower racing, roll racing, car shows, community events, and more.

Before anything is pushed publicly, we want to hear from the wider motorsport community.

Would people support a community backed proposal aimed at helping secure a motorsport focused owner or investor group for the venue?

This is not about sponsorship. This is about whether the community believes it is worth putting together a serious proposal, showing public support, and approaching potential buyers, investors, and supportive businesses with a clear plan.

The Revival Crew has already started drafting a community proposal, but before taking it further, public opinion matters.

Do we push forward and try to help bring Powranna Dragway back properly, or do we leave things as they are?
